Martin, Welcome to the Forum and we hope you become an active participant. Donnell did take a "leap of faith" and I think he did well. Quite a few folks are here and it seems as if more are signing on. Looking forward to your posts.

Hello all. My name is John Long and I posted semi-regular as "3railguy" on the Atlas forum before Atlas tossed us I've been a 3 rail O gauger all my adult life but branched into N scale in Dec 2004 when I picked up a Life Like starter set to go around a table top tree. Since then, I've expanded into a Kato Unitrack layout on a door slab with dimestore plastic buildings scattered around. It's great for what I love most: Running trains. I'm more of a collector/operator than modeler so table top railroading is where it's at for me at this point I enjoy it that way. I like all eras but tend to favor the high horse second generation diesel era and have a modest fleet of EMD and GE power. Streamline passenger sets are another addiction. I also enjoy collecting vintage N scale by Atlas, Minitrix, and AHM. It's cheap and plentiful at local shows and a lot of it runs incredibly well for as crude as it is.

Hello John and welcome to the Forum.
Glad to see you here and hope that you like the "fit" of the place.
I've dabbled in N many years ago, but am in HO only, now. Do you still have/run your 3-rail O?

Hi Mike,
Yes, I still have my O gauge stuff. Postwar and new scale stuff I like to run.

Nothing wrong with collecting, or running trains. You don't need a massive empire or complex operations to be a modeler. Welcome!

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who took the long winding road to get here. Nice to see some familiar names! Thanks for having me.

Welcome Joe!
IIRC think before Atlas locked and closed their forums, there was a topic put up to let folks know this forum had been created for Atlas refugee's to join. I think thats how many of us found our way here.
Most of the folks from Atlas are here now as far as I can tell!
Cheers!

Thank you (Jim, is it?)! I do remember seeing that thread at the time, but there were so many forums to choose from, and it's just taken me a while to try a few on and see what fit. :-) From what I've seen so far, this was has about the closest "feel" of the Atlas Forum that I've found as far as members, prototype/proto-freelance/freelance mix, etc. Kinda feels like I'm back home. :-)

Hi Joe, welcome. I was just reminiscing about the old forum. Someone posted a link to the 8 page thread on SPF that went south, your voice was one of reason.
NH Neil, welcome, too. The door is always open here unlike the little forum we visit when we can.

Jim here, yes. Unlike a lot of other forums were the admins go crazy and create tons of areas, the forum was structured very much like the Atlas forums and IMO benefits in that it has a busier feel. Forums which have tons sub areas can seem dead when many of them have no new posts or activity for weeks or even months. I'd rather have busy/vibrant forum which is small than a big one which seems dead.
There is no perfect forum but we'll try to keep this a positive place as much as posible!

I agree on the lack of 40 sub forum topic areas. One in HO is enough I think.

Hi,
I would like to introduce my self, saying I'm a railway model fan that produces my own models and modified others in order to produce different ones not available in shops. My scale is H0 (1/87) and I use the Märklin (AC) system. So I have to transform all DCC locomotives in order to work in my Märklin layout.
I want to share with you some of my works and learn from more experienced model railways fans!
Thanks. Regards, Ayala Botto Lisbon, Portugal

Hello Old Atlas Friends,
This looks Great - and it's wonderful to see some friends names. After some confusion and the frustration over some of the other Forum's, including a couple that wouldn't take my name for fear the numbers 1957 meant I was a spammer-apparently it looks like a bad name to their systems, I just dropped off the Forum search and hibernated. I hope all is well with everyone. Jeff

Hi fella's, another newbie checking in and saying hello. Got a layout of U.S prototype going on in in my home country of the U.K and I also work on the RR here for a living. I used to look in on the old Atlas forum occasionally and its nice to see some familiar faces here from YT like James above and Big Al to name two!

Well, after belatedly getting to this forum I've been doing some posting but haven't yet said hello here. I'm glad to see that some other D&H fans got here before I did. I'm still writing for the Bridge Line Historical Society Bulletin, though I don't know how long I'll be able to keep that up.
Is the modeler who wanted an Alco RSD-15 "Alligator" for his HO version of the Lake Superior & Ishpeming here? His posts on the old Atlas Forum prompted me to write and post both German and English words to the tune to which Beethoven had set Schiller's "Ode to Joy" in his Ninth Symphony, and Broadway Limited Imports produced the loco he wanted! (I'm not claiming that there was a causal connection, of course.)

I'd been wondering how to create a new thread and thought about asking how to do it. But just now I finally spotted the Create Thread button. I have cataracts in both eyes, which I'll almost certainly have operations to remove soon. My wife has had that done in both her eyes and is glad she did. But meanwhile my color perception, among other things, isn't what it used to be and I've had a hard time noticing the black type on dark blue on a slightly less dark blue background. The moderator might like to increase the contrast.

Well I'll be danged!
After all the years on the deceased Atlas forum I thought that was it for talking N-Scale, then a random Google search pops y'all up. Well hot dog!
Still have more units than brains as the wife likes to say, and despite being a life long Chevy guy, you won't find more than a handful of EMD's amongst the Alco's.
