It's been a long week, but one that draws you away from model RR projects for other tasks, too. Did get some things accomplished. The biggest impact overall was finding LED strip lights on sale ($25/13' string at Menards thru 7 Dec). I added 3 more, bringing the main layout room total to 18 strings that use a total of 173 watts of power or the equivalent of a couple of big incandescent bulbs. The light level has gone from more than adequate to pretty intense. So I pulled out my tripods and took some pics from angles different than I normally use. The San Juan crossing the Animas just before entering Silverton. These reverse angle shots look past the Silverton freight house towards Durango... and to the south past the station. I have one op who really hates that those two turnouts are behind the station, so I put a mirror on the wall above it so he can peek back there when switching. Here, you get a nice view that is usually impossible. A similar bit of track around the mill at Rockwood. I also mostly finished my adobe farmstead, but am still debating whether it needs a bit of plexiglass in front of it as protection from being close to the aisle... Keep on having fun...

Well for me the new car pipeline is still leaking but a lot of progress has been made on some cars, like the Athearn Airslide I am putting together where all you get is a drawing with part numbers ( and the part numbers on the drawing do not match the part numbers on the sprues). Also some resin kits that take a lot of time, and waiting for my next order of Plano Roofwalks. So here a a few more pictures of the club layout. DT&I GP38 and SD38 passing the campground on the other side of the river. PC SD40 & SD45 on siding near the town of Thurd! NKP GP30's with a mixed freight! Thanks for looking! Rick J

Mike, class act and of course I love especially seeing your standard gauge action!
Rick, that scene reminds me a bit of when I was traveling with my Uncles family as a teen from California to Iowas by way of the Rocky Mountains. We stopped and camped at a camp ground with their pop-up trailer along the Rio Grande mainline which was just on the other side of the river from our camp ground, much like your scene!
Nice set of tank cars! What plans to you have for those LPGs? I would surely love to see a company offer a similar car with the roof walk that runs along one side as opposed to the center. I've got a few plain jain hoppers similar to those!
Cheers, Jim Fitch

Beautiful work this week gentlemen, Scotty, the tank cars are fantastic! Ryan's threads about upgrading older covered hoppers bring back some memories of working on Walthers 4427 low side cars too.

TBird thank you for the comps. Jim, I will sell as I sell all my builds. I love the build of the train piece not the layout. I have started lots of layouts and never ever gotten to the point of a Mlehman or a club layout, so I build and sell. Thank you for the comps. I thought I would add this to the SPF today because I felt the need to work on these. My last post of this scratch build was 7-14-13. The flatcars are Walthers made the rest is scratch made.

Mike, class act and of course I love especially seeing your standard gauge action! SNIP It doesn't require much encouragement to get me to add a few more... Dead on the law, it's been a long day that ends in Hesperus. Another pic of the adobe structures under construction An overtaking meet at Hesperus, with MOW Extra 5303 East in the hole

Those lpg cars are so awesome, who makes them and does anyone know when the prototypes were built? Mine is from a Walthers kit - long out of stock. Mid 60's prototype still in use at my cut-off, 1984. The specific car in the photo (and the Bobby warning) is because the model is a foobie. Side walkways are a Trinity feature and a few years in my railroad's future. But, gosh darn - I love those Plano parts!

Cool cars Scotty, what's the story behind those? This was a car that I wanted to do for the longest time and the only kit form I could find was Ambroid. Did not like what they had to offer. At that time there was a fella selling a set of plans from the ambroid kit on ebay and had pictures posted. So I copied the pictures and started the scratch build. They have been sitt'in for some time but I dusted them off and did some more work on them today. Thanks for asking.

I really like all of the tank car work and that WC patch F45! I finally finished of a CNW SD45 I started...in May sometime I think. It's been sitting 80 percent done in a case for a while. I found a few hours over the weekend and decided to finish it up. Basically, this was a Kato SD45 I cut the dynamic section out of, built up a new one and added a bunch of parts to, then painted and crammed sound into. Ah well...enjoy! Kelly: Really sharp job on the North Western SD-45, the non Dynamic Brake C&NW units were favorites of mine. Very nice.
Scotty, Christian, and Bobby nice work on the tank cars. Christian, actually the side walkway cars were the standard for both GATX, cars built in Sharon, PA, Trinity, and ACF in later years. Union Tanks standard was the miserable end ladder, center walkway, with no safety railings. Bobby as usual your car is a thing of beauty. Tbird, before I read your caption, I thought your car was an Exactrail, looks good. Bill .

The encounter could create a time paradox, the results of which could cause a chain reaction that would unravel the very fabric of the space time continuum, and destroy the entire universe! Granted, that's a worse case scenario. The destruction might in fact be very localized, limited to merely our own galaxy, or your basement.

I really dont know how some of you guys do it, make these small pipe pieces and plastic parts for joints and bends. uggggghhhhhhh. The NJ Transit aqua train im working on has 2 tank cars, 1 of which has these 2 verticle tanks on one end. I have no clue what they are or what they do, but they have to be on the model. I was going to use brass rod, but 3/32 rod i bought looks to big when cut down to an appropriate size. So I found a piece of plastic rod that was small and when cut to size looked much more appropriate. Stainless tanks in question. My interpretation of the tubes. The small piping will be made out of solder most likely since its so bendable. The hydraulic pumps in the below pic im making out of details west pewter air cylinders from a freight car detail kit.
