Jim, nice looking engine, what determined if an MILW engine got painted in UP colors or not, I would not think an F9 would be in passenger service. Well nothing completed last week but did not get a lot done this week, but here are a few pictures of the completed work on the P&LE Hot Coil Car! A couple of views of the brake gear air lines after adding an auxiliary air tank and bracket along with its air lines, the dirt collector and an air line that goes up into the car interior. No Brake rods as the car has truck mounted brake gear. Picture shows one of four jacking pads I installed along with a pulling eye that was formed from brass wire wound around a #61 drill bit. Installed the jacking pad braces and one of the walkway braces that have a hole drilled for the main air line. The other end is similar except for no holes for the air line. Rick J

Jim, nice looking engine, what determined if an MILW engine got painted in UP colors or not, I would not think an F9 would be in passenger service. Rick J Milwaukee Road F9A 94A was built as a freight unit and numbered 84C. It was later renumbered to 127A. During its first career in freight service it wore either orange, maroon and black or orange and black. Then in about 1964 as Milwaukee received its Budd bi-level push-pull commuter equipment 127A was converted to commuter service by the addition of a Cummins diesel HEP generator set being installed and repainting in the UP style passenger paint, while receiving a new passenger number of 94A. 94A's stay in the Chicago commuter pool lasted until 1974 when it was removed from commuter service and placed back in freight service. It retained its passenger UP style paint and 94A number, had the Cummins removed and deteriorated with the rest of the Milwaukee Road F-unit fleet until retired in the late 70's and scrapped.

Being a Washington state native and having lived in Seattle since 1961 I have to say Go Seahawks! Enjoy the game today! It was nice on Thursday so I had the chance to shoot a few pics of recent projects out in some intense low winter sunlight while being buzzed by seagulls...... Intermountain ACF 6 hatch cars with several layers of chalk weathering. Atlas SP ACF, these are pretty nice cars for the money - beware low flying gulls at 11 o'clock!

SNIP Atlas SP ACF, these are pretty nice cars for the money - beware low flying gulls at 11 o'clock!... Aw, a little more weathering never hurt a thing... Since the Packers bowed out, I lost what little interest I had in the game to start with. I'll spend that time building stuff and (an hour) watching Downtown Abbey It was a busy week, as I documented a couple of projects I finished in two other threads: atlasrescueforum.proboards.com/thread/3363/new-freight-cars-20atlasrescueforum.proboards.com/thread/3364/more-steam-big-cup-electricityAnother pic from the publicity tour showing off the new equipment to improve service to shippers and receivers of food and other clean products. Been cleaning up around the roundhouse, so grabbed this shot back toward the service area... And the pigs (and sheep, sounds like a Pink Floyd album...) keep rolling.

Love the Cotton Belt Accurail autorack!
I don't have anyway of watching the Superbowl at home since I don't have cable TV and I can't pick up the major networks without a major antennae. There is a big old fashioned antennae in the attic but I don't know where the coax goes to. No biggie as I don't watch sports much anyway.
Love the 1970's and 1980's weather cars! It looks like chalks and pastels are really a great way to go to get the more subtle weathering.
I finally found a copy of Crest of the Continent by Chuck Conway - for $55 slightly used, MSRP is $79.95. I've been interested since it came out in 2009 but always only shrinkwrapped and always $70 minimum. Awesome book. Finally have my own copy to enjoy. I noticed it covers the Joint Line and the Tennessee Pass line; Heart of the Rockies covers the Moffat line, so will their be a third copy to cover west of Grand Junction?

TBird and Scotty really nice job of weathering those cars. Like the weathered 4650's, some of the BN 30" hatch cars were used in PET Coke service out of Arco in Cherry Point. Scotty's tagged cars are great. Jim like the F-9 with the hep, between you and John you have Chicago Commuter power covered. Rick like the progress on the coil car.
Great job all. Bill

Bill,
From '91-2001 I taught part time at The Art Institute of Seattle, their building is right on the BN main thru town, I'd see those Coke cars (along with a lot really cool stuff) quite often, right from my class room window - It was common to see units from BN, Oakway,SP, D&GRW, CP, ATSF, KCS, NS all in one day. They're still in service today too, my best moddeling Buddy works for the Big New Santa Fe and upon seeing my models commented that they had gone by recently.

TBird. I have a question. I read that mostly the ACF Roofwalks were left in natural metal and the PS Roofwalks were painted. I noted that your roofwalks are painted in the car color, was that on repaints or the original finish?

Made some progress on my layout. Set in the early 1990s, based around fictional NY City. Lots of street running, carfloat, etc.. The tracks on the right with the odd tie spacing will all be in the street. All the street turnouts will have gaurdrails around all the points. This was also my first hand laid diamond, so its not perfect. Precision Design in Canada just made this list box for me. They also laser cut some stack insignia's for me. 100% scratch built 170' dump scow I am working on. Still needs lots of details, as well as its entire hydraulic system. In final, set up a trio of Bowser C636's. These are great engines, and sound even better (2 speakers each). I dont think Bowser can be commended enough for what they did with the new trucks and fuel tanks. Not often a company goes out of there way to fix a mistake like that, so fast. The only thing I did not like about them were that they had the wrong horn. They came with a Nathan K3, when they should have a Nathan M3. I put together a Detail Associates one and installed it. I know Bowser is currently working on new horn castings as well, maybe future runs will have them.

Dear 12 bridge,
Please post more photos of your layout. Since I'm confined to a wheelchair, your layout looks perfect for me.

Re-trucked, re-tanked, re-motored, and re-lettered, here are my pair of BN C636's. They run really well together, and will slip there wheels when completely stalled a lot easier than with the old motors.

Are you building your trackwork to NMRA standards or something else? Ill make a thread with more photos tomorrow..Gotta get it cleaned off first. All the turnouts are built with the Fast Tracks Jig's. The Diamonds were built in place, using only an NMRA gauge. The two main curves from the yard were a bit of a pain to put in, but they work now. The fun part is you get actual flange squeal.

Don't like watching football so I built an Accurail kit. Tried a little weathering too.

Worked on a Athearn SD40 RTR unit from a few years ago that is to become Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern. Thankfully i've got most of the details that I need already in my parts bin including the correct sideframes. The horn from Athearn did not look right at all, looked way to oversized and not the correct type. Asked around on some FB groups and was told it is a K3, looked through an old DW detail kit and found one. Carefully pulled off the Athearn version and put the Details West version in its place. Much better looking. Original horn. New replacement----could it have been moved forward more, probably. But i can care less if someone don't like it. Added a Details Associates MU stand that was a double that I just snipped off the top piece. Also added eyebolts for lift rings where appropriate and will add some more minor detail parts while at work tonight. I'de like to finish my SD70M-2 and SD70Ace but Athearn doesn't like to return emails about where your parts are when they promised to ship them out 6 weeks ago. Call customer service and they didn't seem to happy about what I told them so they gave me there personal email to forward all the stuff to them. So hopefully replacement parts finally show up.

Spent some time yesterday assembling another SD70ACE/M-2 cab. Didn't realise the cab didn't come with an interior...fml. So i gotta order that now along with several other parts kits from athearn to fix this sd70m-2 i got on ebay dirt cheap a few weeks ago. Its missing alot of stuff. Here is the model disassembled after gettin about 95% of the paint removed. I need new traction motor cables, cab interior, ditchlights. Also worked on my Rapid City, Pierre and Eastern SD40 while i still wait for athearn to ship my replacement parts. The DB hatch on the factory model is wrong,I need an extended range db hatch. I had bought one off ebay, but it was to long and to narrow height wise. So I took one off my tunnel motor to see if it would work, it to is to long. I really dont want to dig into the shell body or trim the dash 2 version. Its a bit of a difference as you can see. And with athearns part site being impossible to find anything or the lack thereof parts listed. I can't find if athearn makes a SD40 extended range db hatch as a spare part. If anyone has the newer SD40 release can you see if there is a part number for the hatch? MU hoses and snow plow installed. Cannon & Co. radiator screens installed.
