Delivery drones may be in our future, but it doesn't make sense that they would be replacing overseas container traffic, unless drones can handle heavy containers across hundreds of miles across the ocean.

Almost sounds like somebody's trying to get the Fort Worth & Rio Grande up and running again.

You are quite right. For now, ocean crossings will stay on container ships. But for short distances across land, weather is quite predictable. And there are emergency "landing strips" below. We've all seen photos of airplanes that have landed on freeways. Landing these containers, in an emergency situation, would be much safer. In fact, it would pretty much mimic the present day: long lines of cargo boxes moving slowly, if at all, on the roads. Anyway, I believe the first AGWARLD service will be in the corridor from Oakland to San Jose. It is close by, a rather short run, and the Moffet Field facility is immediately adjacent. Plus there is a plentiful supply of LP (lift propellant) in the Bay Area. Ed

That hanger looks awfully familiar btw. I think I visited it when I was in high school on a field trip once.

Hey you guys must be correct. I forwarded these comments to China and Panama. Guess what? They concede that the new canal is a waste of money and stupid, since it won't change anything ! Victory! Heads are rolling due to Atlas Forum Experts proving they are wrong headed. The construction company is going to start filling in the big new locks next month with rubble and dirt.
I have the comments out to the Eastern States also. Expect them to be barging in fill to make their ports shallower. Since not more traffic is coming, then can stop work.
NS and CSX are going to start lowering clearances and refill tunnels they spent $billions on.
So who knew? Well there you go. Victory ! Brilliant guys. Thanks for the information.

I don't know who in China you spoke to--that person was either WAY down in the government or just putting you on. China has known about AGWARLD for quite some time. That explains the total lack of progress on the Nicaragua canal. THEY know where not to put their money.
Panama is kind of in a spot. They started work on the new canal quite awhile ago, and it's almost done. Really, how can they not finish it? Not to mention, the government's going to be getting pretty shaky down there when the citizens find out. I wouldn't want to be in charge down there!
As I said earlier, the coastal ports, both east and west, have a pretty fair amount of time before AGWARLD starts crossing oceans.
As for some of your comments, they're just plain silly. No one is going to lower a tunnel clearance.
You obviously are not in the industry.

There was a report on NPR this morning about the effects of the west coast port strikes. Basically the story discussed how the labor secretary went and helped end it but that unions were weren't doing themselves any favors. Companies that rely on west coast ports are already starting to arrange alternative shipping routes etc. including Mexico and RR routes into the US that way. The nearly finished Panama Canal widening project was mentioned etc. Bottom line is if the west coast ports keep this up, they will hurt themselves and their local economies as shipping moves to avoid them more and more.

www.virginiaavenuetunnel.comI read in industry newsletter this project may or may not be finally starting. It too is designed to boost stack trains on the east coast and is part of the CSX plan to run stack trains on the old B&O route.
