insert code here Well, I'm started. The removal of the walk and hatches was a major undertaking, abount 7 hours. You have to drill and nip to remove them. Then you have two halves. I cut the top of the ends and glued then in place for strength and keep things lined up. I also glued styrene strips in the opening from underneath. The body fits into the bottom tightly, that helps align the parts. To fill the top I thought of the IM grain hopper top. The hopper loading hatch spacing was dead on, but it was to high and when centered was 10" short on each end. Well I set about reducing the height by flat sanding the bottom. I layed a strip of 220 grit wet or dry on the bathroom sink table and went to work. Several hours later it was done. You have to stop and check the fit very often. The 10" gap was no problem to fill. I largely completed one end. I'll do the ends in brass and splice and dice the diamond walk. Bobby

Off to a great start, Bobby! I'm not really familiar with the prototype, so I'm really looking forward to seeing where this goes. We still gotta work on your full size photos to do your projects justice! Essentially what I'm doing here is opening your thumbnails, and then copying the direct address for those photos so I can paste them here (surrounded by the "img" HTML brackets): Dave

Bobby, how about a pic of a complete car out of the box ? it seems that Bachman may have actually done a decent Re-Tool on these cars ? recall that the original had the loading hatches molded on to the roof. maybe You should also find an original to use as comparison car as You go along with this build. will be waiting to see Your progress ! Spikre, I was hoping the old run had a seperate walk and hatches, but no such luck.I have the new run, so both are the same. The ends from the side view are way off. I finished them and removing the hopper gates a few mins. ago. I had to cut them to shape. I cut the first one, then made a template from thick paper to do the others. I'm going to do a end to end photo with the original and modified ends. I cut out the middle part of the inside of the ends and rebuilt them. In doing so, I removed the large braces. I hope to add photos today or early tomorrow.
Thanks, Bobby

You can see the big difference in the shape of the ends. I had to rebuild the end bulk heads due to the new shape of the ends. The clunky gates were removed because they were clunky.lol. Dave if you will, make them big, thanks.
Thanks for looking

Looking good, Bobby! I know from experience that it's a lot of work carving off all those molded details, but it's always rewarding to see a model reduced to a basic form and ready to begin the detailing process. Dave

Bobby, the End Braces seem to be as heavy as the Originals were. so looks like no Re-Tooling on them. Spikre

I added the radius, gussets and bolsters to the body. You can see the difference if you compare the before and after photos. The bolsters were cut off a IM cylindrical hopper. Thanks, Bobby

Bobby, you can always use the remains of the Donor IMRC car as a flat car load,or a pushed out of the way wreck along the tracks. coming along nicely so far ! Spikre

Thanks Spikre. I didn't like the way the radius and gussets turned out, so I started over. I have my Plano and Sergeants on order, so I'll really dig in when they and my disc with 40 detail photos arrives.

I added the end ribs, bolster caps, roof ridge, redid the radius and gussets, and added trucks and sergeant couplers. I have the 40 detail photos, so now I can watch my brain explode as I try to add all the details. Regards , Bobby
