?? how many of those Islands did the Imperial Army capture in WW-2 ? only lost land since the War of 1812,or the Civil War ? did want to get to Alaska, but never did make it. but by then most of the Alaska RR RS-1s were de-shrouded or gone. they did get some RSD-1s later as replacements, but they just weren't the same as the "Cowled" RS-1s. Spikre, Just Attu and Kiska IIRC correctly. It was a miserable victory and even more miserable waiting for the Americans to return a couple of years later and take it back.
RS-1s sound interesting, but that's just boring ol' standard gauge. Gimme a cruise to see some shovelnose GEs and comely Alcos in narrow flavor. My parents have done that, hope to do it myself.
Now that I brought up the idea, I'm really curious if any model railroading was done on Shemya? Another oddity of island life was that everyone lived in one big dorm, separated into various quarters for enlisted, NCOs, officer country, and civilians of course. Plenty of extra room from what I understand as there must be now that the island's population is down to little more than a couple of dozen. Plenty of room for a club layout.
