Well it's been awhile. It's hard to believe that Bowser's 636 has been out for almost a year now. I went back and looked up when Tim [icrr3067] had started his repaint job on his IC 636. Wow! That was back in October of last year. I started this job at the same time and finally finished it last night. It was one of the hardest paint jobs I've ever done. I've got 3 more to do, but this time I'm going to leave on as much detail as possible. It was a nightmare trying to get this thing back together. I wanted it to look like it had just come out of my 15 year rebuild program, but it got a weathered look instead to hide a few flaws. At this rate, I should have the rest of my fleet done in about 200 years!! Hurry up Portland!! JL

Nice work this week Gentlemen! Here's the third SD45 of a 3 unit set I've been working on, it's been a great summer here in Seattle! More progress on my Cannon&Co GN boxcar, the underframe is mostly done, the carbody is assembled and I'm working on the lower door tracks

For STL RPM I finished 7 models, my first since 1999. One of them is this Tangent Scale Models 6000 Gallon 3-compartment tank car, modeled to represent a 1968 repaint in 1973. Tangent factory paint, Tangent code 88 wheels, weathered with oils. One other was a new Moloco NYC RBL boxcar, outfitted for 1973 appearance with ACI label from ICG Decals, weathered with oils. The conversation about the upcoming InterMountain GP16 and their announcement of SBD SD40-2's as well as friend beginning his own Clinchfield U36C project caused me to dust this project off. I started this 9+ years ago for a clinic that I had to cancel due to the birth of my daughter. It's an Atlas U36C in Seaboard System. For those who don't remember the history of these, they came from the factory with an error in the paint. Since I was already stripping the shell to correct the position of the Seaboard System roadname and logo, I added other details. The cab was replaced with a Hi-Tech cab. New pilot details (a plow, MU hoses, and cables), air-tanks, and grab-irons were added. It was finished with Model Master Gunship Gray. When I restarted the project, I focused on the handrails (replacing them with Utah Pacific stanchions and bending my own railings), adding the brake chain to the front truck (not shown), and doing something about the monochromatic paint. I'm working on covering the trap door on my layout with some scenery. I decided a park or grove of trees would work. Although I'm not sure how I feel about the looks of this:

New member, 1st do you have a name or have you always been called New Member? I want to say that your pictures are great and crisp. The model looks really good in detail but really need so weathering. I do look forward to seeing more of your fine photo work my friend.

Although I'm not sure how I feel about the looks of this: Your gut feeling is serving you well, it does look placed or staged. Sorry buddy. The camera tells and shows all every time. Maybe I am jumping the gun... in all fairness maybe when other details and other components are added it might change the whole look.

Pack them in closer, green up the ground cover. Where you have spaces, make them more random in size. Your's look like you planted them with the help of a surveyor.

Ouch. Tough crowd.
I was just thinking the trees were looking ok in the picture and that maybe a few more little accents with ground cover would help.
I'm just not getting the land surveyor comment at all. I don't see anything in a discernible line or pattern.

While I'm waiting for detail parts for my E Unit. I started on the rest of my train for the Illinois Central Hawkeye. The car sides are Union Station Products. Here's the first car assembled. IMG_0836[1] by Timothy Alund, on Flickr IMG_0835[1] by Timothy Alund, on Flickr

I'd tone down the brightness and add some more ground cover

Some bushes, dead wood and rocks. Some soft elevation change to brake the flat feel. I'm sure it will all come together.

Great stuff, everyone I'm kinda late to the party this SPF. Spent the weekend yardsaling/craigslisting/ebaying to pony up some cash to invest in track, successfully I did finish up a project to add an extension to the yard in Silverton where some of that new track will go. A siding and spur where the fresh cork is will add ~16 car badly needed capacity to the yard. I wrote up this project, along with lots more pics, here: cs.trains.com/mrr/f/11/t/249387.aspx

Hard to be honest in this politically correct world of tender feelings.
