The units definitely sit high off of the trucks and track. Just saying. Hahaha Nope. Not bad enough for me to give them the Big Al saw. Not yet anyway. I didnt say they deserved the saw. Just that they sit high up.

atsfan is correct. They ride high. It seems to be all in the trucks too. Gaps abound.

It's like I said on the U25 thread I started. Bowser blew it! It seems the more we study the model, the more errors. Maybe Bowser just should have started with a whole new model.

The ride height is close, but no cigar. The model would need different gearboxes and raised couplers to fix it. The prototype:

They did try that. The FRA declined to help and after the PC mess, private financing was not gonna happen either.

This is crew lounge stuff, but the UP could have made RI's life easier by actually routing traffic over the line. UP made no effort to do so, electing to maintain routings over CNW and CB&Q/BN.

Since Bowser doesn't have a "retro" kit like they did for the 1st batch of C636's for the U25B; Is there anyway to lower it so it doesn't look like you could drive a Ferrari under the fuel tank?
Thanks.

Not that I'm aware of. Does anyone here know what the correct scale "ride height" should be for these or know were I could find some scaleable drawings?

There's drawings in the Kalmbach diesel plan book. The drawing shows a deck height of .78" in HO My elderly Stewart U25B has a deck height of .82". Ed

Deck height of a U25B is 67 5/8", or 0.776" (rounding up to 0.78") off the rail head. www.alphabetroute.com/nynhh/dieseldgms/2510-2525.pdfMy Bowser U25B's (not the latest run, but they do have Loksound) have a deck height of 0.790" to the rail head. I put the loco on the track, then placed my dial caliper on the rail and measured to the deck using the depth part of the gauge. EDIT: My original number bothered me, so I went and re-measured this afternoon and got a bigger number and edited to show it. Hmm... The gauge must have been crooked when I measured it? Ooopsie.

I just measured mine at.777" so the deck height is good. But the fuel tank still seems too high off the rails to me.

Just a wild guess, but could the fuel tank be too shallow? I remember that was one of the issues of the 636s. Not only were the trucks too high, but they had the smaller 630 3000 gal tank as well. If the deck height is right, you could but a spacer between the frame and the tank. This is what I had done on my 636 until Lee came out with the correct 5000 gal tank. JL

My old Stewart has a fuel tank that is "outside the parameters of this discussion". Lucky for the owners of the newer ones.
BUT.
I'm looking at the model and prototype photos posted here, and it looks like the bottom of the fuel tank is at about the right height. And the tank cross-section looks about right. And the gap above the tank looks about right. So I'd do a bunch more investigating before I messed with that fuel tank.
Also note that us folks have measured the model and found the deck height correct. So ya can't lower the model.
What I do notice that looks HORRIBLY wrong is that the bottom of the plow clears the track by A LOT. I recommend staring at that item in the various photos above. It will become obvious that the top to bottom dimension of the plow is wrong.
I that that is what is making the model look "funny".

This goes back to about 2004, warts and all. I used some Atlas trucks, a modified Stewart frame and made my own tank from pieces of sheet brass. The handrails are brass wire soldered together. Not all that happy with the cab, it's a Hi Tech, one of these days I'll tear it apart.

Well, I just grabbed my Sept issue of Diesel Era and these puppies do ride high. The SP Bicen. is on the front cover. However that being said, it appears that the steps are too shallow. Look real close and you can tell that the distance between the steps on the model are too close together. And you can tell that the marker lights are not on the corners. You know, I can live with that. JL
