How old is the Genesis F-unit? Didn't Athearn change motors in the F-units after the first couple of runs?

How old is the Genesis F-unit? Didn't Athearn change motors in the F-units after the first couple of runs? Jay Jay I remember they were advertised new gearing and the motor might have been mentioned also. Anyone have a copy of their ad?? I have about twenty of the first run F units and they all required new wheels and gears. Some of the first runs were really poor running models, but Athern did fix the problem later on with the later production. Larry

The motors i have corresponding to the part number i gave say Roco on them in tiny print i believe. Actually found them on E bay for 26.00 so picked up a couple.. Steve............i thought Roco motors were not too bad!

Part number on the included parts sheets is the same as you list. However, the shape of the flywheels is different between the early release and recent release pictures on the parts lists.

Athearn changed the design of chassis when they dropped the Kato/Stewart porthole window insert that held the body on the chassis, in favor of the L-shaped piece of plastic in the rear and front draft gear allowing the shell to be completely de-skirted.

My units have the wedges protruding down from port hole plastic in sert. To release shell you spread shell around the fuel tank area and lift and drop. Guess this is earlier release but still a nice model. In terms of parts mechanical etc are they still the same as newer?. I had seen a couple of deals on new chassis drives only complete and thought a good deal tp pick up for parts instead of buying individual parts. I did note the oriiginal picture of motor has tapered flywheels but replacement motors come with uniform shaped flywheel. Would be \nice to know if trucks etc fit both units?. Steve

If your old motor is gold colored and looks like this: Then it is an old motor made by Büehler. It's a hit or miss, often a miss. Athearn no longer carries these motors as replacement parts. Current production Genesis motors look like this: These are made by Roco, and carry the part number G63842. I am unsure if the new motor is a drop in replacement for the old one though.
