Is it OK to use the Bachmann power supply without the throttle box to supply the current for Atlas CustomLIne switch motor actuation? It is an unregulated, un-protected, 16 VAC at one amp supply.
Some here have said in the past that theses switch motors need a surge of at least one amp to work correctly. If I also include the throttle box in the circuit and use the accessories terminals on the box, the output to the switch motors would be limited to about 100 ma based on measurement I took myself on two different units. Using only the wall bump supply there is no limit to the available current except the power supply itself which is one amp. But it is unregulated with an open circuit voltage of 21 volts (drops to 16 volts AC with a one amp load).
My concern is burning up the switch motors. I intend to use military style momentary single pull double throw toggle switches to actuate the switch motors. Is that a problem? Do the Atlas switch motor controllers have an internal current limiting resistance in them?
Sorry for all the questions but so much of this info is not available anywhere but through users.
