Neil Young's Lionel layout was featured in a recent issue of the New York Times magazine, and on a blog on the paper's website. I have posted photos and the relevent parts (to us model railroaders) from the longer interviews about his life and music on my blog at cprailmmsub.blogspot.ca/2012/...ding-i-am.htmlQuotable quote from the article: "Back in the day, he [Young] and his pals used to snort coke and drink wine and tinker with the model layout until it grew into 3,000 square feet of track and trains." I wonder what the scenery and trackwork looked like after those work sessions . . . John Longhurst, Winnipeg

There was an article in Classic Toy Trains about Neil Young's layout that was published in the mod-1990's. The scenery was rather eclectric as I recall.

Being a Neil Young fan for as many years as I have been interested in trains I feel a connection to him and his love of trains. I have just started reading his book "Waging Heavy Peace" and he opens the book talking about his trains. They are mentioned several times and he describes his relationship with Lionel. Not sure what the rest of the book holds but I bought it for insights into Neil's life more than a book about his trains. Of note, he no longer does any drugs or alcohol.

Being a Neil Young fan for as many years as I have been interested in trains I feel a connection to him and his love of trains. Same here, I started into the hobby in 1969 just about the time I discovered Neil and his music. It's been a great relationship all around, although I didn't know about the train connection until he got involved in Lionel. I have just started reading his book "Waging Heavy Peace" and he opens the book talking about his trains. They are mentioned several times and he describes his relationship with Lionel. Not sure what the rest of the book holds but I bought it for insights into Neil's life more than a book about his trains. I'm looking forward to reading Neil's new book alongside "Shakey," which has been sitting on my to read shelf for some time now -- just as soon as I finish my diss in the next few months. Of note, he no longer does any drugs or alcohol. We all get old sometime... Besides, Neil was born in Canada so, although he sounds otherwise qualified to run for president, he won't be able to.
