Guys i have found one of these new in the box for sale. Cross referenced the release with Atlas old release sheet on Atlas site. Question, are there or were there any differences in the drive and mechanics of old vs newer releases?. Sound maybe a different story this is silver model. Thanks steve

Sorry Steve, I can't answer your specific question, but if it's like most Atlas locos, the quality is there.
I'd never hesitate to buy an older, NIB Atlas loco, nor would I be hesitant to buy an older, gently used, well maintained Atlas loco. I've had several in years past.

The cross reference sheets at the Atlas site for older and newer releases whether rolling stock or Locos is handy to have. Check for year of release, road numbers, how many runs of a road name and features. Good info to have when looking at an item or purchasing plus look at regular old retail price. Steve

I've had the shell off that era Train Masher, and one of the newer ones. As far as I can tell, they mechanicals are the same.

When did Atlas convert to LED's? Don't know if they had converted by '04.

Looked at online parts list and it looks like an LED board for lights.One for sound one for anlog with dcc 8 pin socket.

When did Atlas convert to LED's? Don't know if they had converted by '04. Back in the 1980's or early 1990's. I have U36's and Classic C424's from 1994 that have LEDs. |

They converted to LEDs in the early 2000s. My older run GP40s (August 2000 run) all have bulbs for headlights.
