Guys i know these guys have been out of business sometime! I have come across some of their drive line and coupling parts kits that look interesting and could meet some of my needs. Given how time has passed do you think the plastic components would have deteriated over time in the packages. ?. Not sure if its a smart thing todo picking up these new old stock parts?. Thanks steve.............looks like they were a good company years ago with nice products.

Steve,
Sunlight and ozone can break down plastic, but unless they were in a LHS window, I wouldn't worry. I have locomotives from the late 60's that the plastic is in perfect shape. I also have later made models with split drive parts (not Hobbytown of Boston), so it can happen.
Their products were very good to start with, but my experience with them was limited to doing some rebuilds for my LHS. I had machine tools he didn't have and he "sub-contracted" HO and O repairs to me often using H of B parts. I'm an N scale guy. I'm sure some of the others here have used the drive parts "back in the day" and will chime in. My guess would be that their still running after all these years.
Regards Charley.

I have a 40 year old RS-3 with Hobbytown driveline gears that are still going strong with no breakage.
The pros on the Repowering a Regearing Yahoo Group all still use old Hobbytown driveline components on all their drivetrain rebuilds.
Supposedly Micro-Mart has copied these driveline parts and is marketing them, although they are made in China so I do not know if the quality versus Hobbytown is there.

NWSL produces some very nice driveline parts for various sizes of driveshafts, etc. That's always an option. NWSL is likely going to be around in the future if you ever need to freshen things again.

I have an AB set of Alcos by Hobbytown and they are all intact. I don't use them, however, since switching over to dcc.
