I noticed an ad for two sets of El Cap Walthers premium cars with interiors that are available now with one F7 AB set with sound for $2500!!!!! Each set is $2500. A little high by my thoughts since my Overland Brass models really did not cost much more than that many years ago.

Courtesy of the tight production totals, you have sellers that will sit and wait for the person that just has to have it come and pay their price. It may take years to sell, but patience is the key. There are couple of sellers on e-Bay that the minute something sells out at Walthers list models at four, five, six times the models MSRP and sit and wait for the buyer that HAS TO HAVE that model.

I would guess they will sell them but not to me!! I did purchase the regular Walthers cars since my 12 brass cars are very heavy and do not pull well but look very nice. The Walther cars roll very well and they look nice overall so I am going to install the interior kits from the Whistle Stop into several of the cars and add some riders. Larry

Larry - I'm guessing that those El Cap set will be "on sale" for quite some time. With a price tag of $2,500 for an "INCOMPLETE" El Capitan I really can't imagine those selling any time soon. Yes, I said "INCOMPLETE". For a modeler wanting to replicate the El Cap you would need to add 3 additional 72 seat coaches with figures. I saw some on ebay in February for $220 each. In addition, you will need at least a second A-B F-7 set, (the El Capitan was never run with a single A and B) currently selling for $480 from Walthers. So.... that pencils out to $3,640 for the COMPLETE El Cap. Your Overland Brass set is beginning to look like a better deal each day.

They need at least four lead units or five in some cases and several more additional 700 series cars in the summer time. The big deal is the fact they are the Deluxe sets like yours and they are asking a big price even though some might not realize they need additional power and cars to be correct. I believe the brass cars were a bargain and I plan on decorating several of the Walthers cars with the new interior kits to enhance their looks. Larry

Guys - Here is a really nice video of the Walthers El Capitain Deluxe set with 2 additional 700 series coaches. On the point are the Walthers A-B-B-A Santa Fe F-7's w/sound. Pretty impressive. Enjoy.

Are the interiors painted in the Walthers cars with little folks in them? It didn't look like it to me if I recall right. The interior is a terribly blah tan color that begs to be painted. I painted mine by hand and then used cheap little folks from eBay to populate the car. 2-3 hours time and about $2 in peeps. I do plan on using the interior decorating material by Whistle Stop for the lounge car some time in the future. I just watched the video, looks good. Why do so many leave their bells so loud?

I noticed those cars on a search last week and today, the search does not find them. That price was approaching brass prices for older runs of the cars. Larry

That one ended but I don't believe anyone purchased the set or should I say, really paritial set. In the ad, it states "be the first to own a RTR set." I would have to believe that is not the case! Larry

I don't get it. All of the cars can still be found if you shop around enough.

I will say. Spending an hour on the phone would yield you the whole train from a few different stores. The LA stores had much of the train in stock for example.

Jim There is one born every monment!!! I believe W.C. Fields had a quote along these lines. Never give a sucker an even break! There is no doubt much of the train can be purchased here and there, but for most Santa Fe fans, we got ours!!!!! I purchased a few extra just to pratice the tinting and interior work in case some modifications did not work out. Larry
