I saw this in an e-mail from the Wall Street Journal:
"The new chief executive of CSX said he is able to lead a turnaround of the big U.S. railroad, despite an undisclosed medical condition that requires the 72-year-old to sometimes use an oxygen machine. Hunter Harrison's health has become a critical question for investors and analysts ahead of a vote on June 5, when shareholders will be asked to bless a $84 million payment for the railway maverick. "I'm having a ball and I'm running on so much adrenaline that no one can stop me. Don't judge me by my medical record, judge me by my performance," said Mr. Harrison in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. He has a four-year contract with CSX but has threatened to quit if his pay package is rejected."

I am having a ball firing thousands of people. What a complete AH.
Zero good things to say about him or his health.

Screw that jerk. A friend of mine works for CN (Cartoon Network) and is still feeling the effects of his tenure there. His ideas (ideals) are a joke.

There's an old saying in the industry, that 80% of the company's profits comes from just 20% of the traffic. Harrison appears intent on going after the big money by running off the other 80% of the traffic. An exaggeration? Perhaps. But the point remains.

Read a headline on a local news paper from Fitzgerald, GA of massive closure of a yard there and layoffs. CSX quoted as saying there was "plenty of work for anyone that wants to move...."

I heard that line before.. They forgot to mention you needed 10 or more years to be on the extra board. That was when old Ready Freddy was stealing brakeman and conductor's jobs.

I've never worked anywhere close to the rail industry, but I find that rule (or ones like it) to always come with a caveat: The 80% that doesn't directly bring in profit is required so that the 20% that does bring in the profit, can.

Business these days isn't about providing a customer service, it's doing everything you can to prop up the stock price as high as you can before the short term 'investors' can reap as much money out of selling their stock at the right time before the bottom falls out of the 'value' that the company has built over the years.
Harrison and his puppet masters appear to me not to be in the business as a service to their customers and employees but slash, burn, sell, leaving a gutted outfit with worn out equipment, inexperienced management and line workers, experience paid off or pissed off as being too costly today and of no value for the future.
Capitalism is based on making money for the owners of a business. Unfortunately it no longer is to build a good business to provide for owners as much as to feed infestations of ravaging opportunistic viruses sweeping from victim to victim, sucking out as much as possible before yanking their puppet off to another.

Sadly that last paragraph is so true and is the downfall of this country
