I am lucky to have a very good USPS carrier here where I live, brings things to the porch when they don't fit and is great at picking up things we are shipping out when we request it.
My first home as an adult had a USPS carrier that you could set your clock by. He retired and was replaced by a guy nick named "Killer" Some days he might deliver twice, morning and afternoon, or just in the morning or just in the afternoon. Then there were days of none at all. Once when he had car work done on his vehicle at my wife's repair shop he left a home phone number to contact when it was done, the local bar. We have found out that any hint of dissatisfaction expressed to the supervision at the local office was met with an attitude of, "Yeah, but that's just Killer...." He did pass away relatively young.

The USPS services is all a function of the quality of your local delivery carrier. We have had great service for years. About 18 months ago, we got our current carrier. Locally, there has been a considerable amount of new construction, but no additional USPS resources have been provided. Personally, I am not sure that USPS as we know it is sustainable on a long term basis. But that is another topic for another thread.
