Folks;
Broke off a step on my Athearn Genesis F Unit. Any ideas on a replacement that is the same size. I saw that Cal Scale makes replacement steps. Any body ever use them?
Regards

Jere, the Cal scale steps are slightly different and it will look strange together with the stock ones.
I have some junk Genesis shells that i could cut off some of the steps (cutting up into the rivet strip) and you could sand the tops down and either glue and / or drill and pin it.
let me know......

The Genesis/Highliner steps are molded on and generally pretty sturdy due to the type of plastic used. Intermountain's steps are a separate part... you might be able to adapt one to fit. The thing with replacing the Genesis step with one off another shell is it's just a butt glue-on, without any reinforcement. If I were going to try it I'd probably drill some .016" holes into the sill and step and use a couple short bits of .015" wire to retain it and strengthen it, then glue in place with Cyanopoxy.
I do get to figure out how to do this when Rapido sends me the replacement steps for the FP9s that got crunched up in shipping. I guess I need to email again and see how that's coming. They are molded on to the shell, but they're tooling up separate steps to replace the broken ones... has to be cheaper than replacing all the broken shells... and risking them getting broken again in shipment.

Any step other than a Highliner/Genesis step will look like a giant zit on the end of you nose. The Highliner step is perfectly scaled and all others aren't even close.
