I was browsing the old Atlas-RR HO forum and I came across a post I made on May 6th of 2011, nearly 17 months ago.
For all the Santa Fe fans out there, I couldn't resist, so I going to post it here.
I just pulled the trigger and bought the full 9-car set. Yes, it was a bit more expensive but it comes with 175 figures and lighting already installed.
I run my Santa Fe Super Chief for the O-Scale club I belong to and I have 400 people installed in a 13-car consist. That took me just about 3 hours per car labor and almost $1.00 per figure, so I feel that the complete set, for me, is the ONLY way to go.
If you want the set DON'T DELAY. They are only making 350 complete sets.
The production numbers for the individual cars are not realeased.
Coming soon to a layout near you... The Santa Fe El Capitan.
That was on the Friday before Mothers Day. By the following Monday, May 9th, all 350 Deluxe sets were SOLD OUT.

I didn't go for the deluxe set. I didn't really dig the price or the terms, and I didn't want the Walthers F units when I have a closet full of Genesis warbonnets... as well as some Genesis FP45s if I want to move it into the 60s.
I also wanted a longer consist than the standard as well as extra cars for my brass one (which was badly shorted on the 700 hi-level coaches). I'll eventually fix mine up with people, lights, paint the interiors etc. It will certainly take more time and may wind up costing as much, but so far I've got a total of maybe $700 into all of my El Capitan cars.... total, and it's enough for 1.5 trains and plenty of future fun. Just have to put it on the to-do list. In the mean time I'm running it as-is without lights... except for the baggage dorm... the one that almost melted.
Another reason I didn't go for the deluxe is because I was already committed to another flat price, full set passenger train including locos - the Canadian. I couldn't really afford to do both so I opted for the one-car-per-month El Cap, and just happened to close a nice run of ebay stuff to pay for the Canadian when it showed up.

I picked up one of the special run cars ala carte in a store. It was nice but I didn't see any others since.
I am looking to get one of the upcoming interior decoration kits and try it out. If I had the deluxe run I would have to take out all of the figures...........
