Kato is making a new run of F40Ph units with upgrades such as ditch lights. Also there is another set of superliners on the way too.

I look forward to the new Amtrak F40Ph numbered units. Interesting choice of road numbers as the #334 had a home built fuel tank applied that looked close to a GE style fuel tank. Should make an interesting kitbash.

Good to see Kato active, sort of. A new product would be nice. Amtrak Phase 3 is my favorite. I don't model Amtrak, but these look nice..........And the engine will work on the Walther's Amfleet cars.......

Thanks for posting. I got the e-mail today (Thursday). I'd like to know if these new F40s will have hard wiring, vs. the clip-and-bar electrical contact system that the first-release units have. I couldn't tell from the announcement. Anyone know?

I'm curious to see how they do the ditchlights on this model. Will they be inset into the face of the nose like the prototype, or will they reuse the recently-released commuter F40PH model that has the ditchlights mounted on the face of the nose. Hopefully the former. I noticed that the ad above doesn't show the front of the F40PH, probably because they hadn't finalized the ditchlight version of the model yet.

Dave They will most likely be like the N scale version released not to long ago.
