I am looking for any thoughts on people's experience using concrete tie flex track on a layout please. In the Pelle Soeborg book he painted his, which seems like too much work for me....... I think Atlas and Peco both make this. I am a user of code 83. Thanks

Its a neat way to get the look for those prototypes that use the Concrete ties. A friend has a lot of lot on his very modern BNSF layout. Its a very distinctive look. Bill

In case you're interested, Lance Mindheim showed how he incorporated a short section of concrete tie track into his switching layout to represent the CSX / Tri-Rail mainline - it's about halfway down on his 2010 in-progress page: www.lancemindheim.com/2010_archives.htmThe concrete ties provide an interesting contrast with the regular wood ties on the rest of his layout, making this section clearly stand out as the mainline. In the Pelle Soeborg book he painted his, which seems like too much work for me....... I think Atlas and Peco both make this. I am a user of code 83. Thanks Micro Engineering makes concrete tie track with weathered rail. It's the usual ME - hard to curve - product. The rail clips are nice and should have a dab of paint. Easily done with the fairly new to the train market paint markers. The Atlas is much easier to curve. And the tie clips are not as much a visual problem as with Atlas wood tie track. Again, a marker run over the rail clips is a good visual improvement. As for the rail itself, even brand new rail on concrete ties is much more weathered in appearance than the Atlas rail. It needs something. That "something" for me was the ME weathered concrete tie track.

Do any of the brands mimic the shape of real concrete ties, which are not flat and square like wood ties........ Thanks

Peco Code 83 flex track has a correct concrete tie profile.
Peco is now also making Code 75 ho steel tie flex track.
