mthtrains.com/news/505I am curious if these are generic cars painted up for the NYC. Or are these custom tooled versions? Somehow I think MTH has only made the SP cars custom but I am not sure. Thank you. Seems the GP35's are still delayed also..........I don't really need them, but was hoping they would come and go so MTH might do some other product more up 'my' alley.........

Those are accurate cars for the Empire State Express.
From what I can determine, they have sets of accurate cars for the Daylight, the Empire State Express and the Powhatan Arrow. I'm not familiar enough with the prewar Twentieth Century Limited to hazard a guess on those cars.
The Daylight cars appear to be the basis for their sets of generic cars in other roadnames.

I emailed MTH with a question about the finish of the Empire State Express cars since they should be metal type finish to represent the stainless look. I received an email back from MTH saying they are painted silver. The Empire State cars in the MTH video looked like they had a special finish on them, but MTH said they were painted. I purchased the Powhatan Arrow cars which are very nice overall and look correct and wanted to get these if they were done correctly to look like stainless. Larry

If just painted that is disappointing. And these cars are not cheap......... I agree and decided not to purchase them after getting a contact email back this month from MTH. After purchasing the Daylight and N&W set by MTH, I was hoping for plating on the NYC set since the quality of the previous sets was very good. Larry Thank you for contacting MTH Electric Trains. We appreciate your interest in our products. I am sorry for the delay in responding to your email. The silver finish on these cars is painted on. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with. Thank you, Kirstin Martinez MTH Electric Trains
