I'm interested in the Cargill as they were pretty common on D&RGW trains of the 70's. I've seen both low and high hip yellow Cargill hoppers and the mint green ones as well. I've picked up 3 of the Proto 2000 yellow cars (two with the large circle logo and one with the small end logo's like ER's new car) and one of the ER mint green cars, although I could probably grab another if I can find one.

These look very nice, but I have just about all the 4427s I can handle. However, I sure could use a Magor 4750 in Frisco or BN...

The PS 4427 must be ExactRail's best-selling model, based on the number of releases and new road numbers they've produced. I think the last batch (with the second run of Chessie System) was only announced a couple months ago.

I think there's something to that, Dave. There is such a vast difference between the state of the art of Walthers low hip 4427 and ExactRail's version that I suspect it warranted people trading up. That was certainly the case for me.
I think another important point about the 4427 is how long a period the prototype has been in use. I'm not sure when these first appeared on the scene, but I'm thinking it was '64. I regularly see old Milwaukee hoppers with build dates of 1966. So the model is not only appropriate for '60s modelers, it's still good for the present day and everything in between.

Riogrande, be careful with the ER Cargill hoppers. There are two road numbers (TLDX 2841 and 2853) appearing on both runs, the green and the yellow cars. I'm wondering if these cars were green when new (7-64) and subsequently repainted in yellow. I'm sure you don't want to duplicate road numbers. Ciao. Raffaele

There were only about 114 of these cars painted in the original BN paint scheme, and I've got my quota. It would have been nice if the models had been done in one of the later schemes--there were about twice as many and I have none, at this time.

Ed: I wish Exactrail would introduce the different era paint schemes for all their Burlington Northern applicable cars, the PS-4427, the Magor 4750, the Evans 5277, and the "Beer Cars". I think they would sell a number of additional cars from the same tooling with different scheme's and numbers for the same road. They have done it with Santa Fe, Norfolk and Western, CNW, and other railroads on various release's to date, but not for the Burlington Northern so far.

Bill, if you have any ExactRail products, you can register your model with them at www.exactrail.com/register. At the bottom of this form there is a field where you can enter your suggestions for future products. I sent a suggestion in one time and I was told this was the only way to suggest new products. Seems silly to me that any email sent to them cannot be considered but this method will work. Whatever. I just started registering my products.

Yeah, same here. At least we're both pushing for more schemes on the Magor hopper. I'd like to see the later BN schemes, too. The plain green scheme was in full force around the time I model BN.

Raffaele I usually try to write numbers down in order to avoid duplicates.
