Wake up and rub the sand outta yer eyes!! Ya'll are burnin' daylight!
Got the coffees & teas brewed up. The bacons, sausages, ham slices and thin chops are sizzling away on the grill. Eggs are stacked and await your order. Biscuits aplenty, along with breads, blueberry muffins, donuts and granola bars. A pan each of grits & oatmeal are warming on the stove. Milks, juices and canned drinks are in the cooler.
Heading out the door, shortly, to take our daughter to work. Then to the store to return a couple of items. Afterwards, it's off to the mall in Wilmington to take care of some semi-annual business. I may have a few hours with the trains before picking Nicole back up from work and bringing her here to visit for a while.
What do the rest of ya have planned for the day?

I'll be performing maintenance on my truck, working on our travel trailer, and breaking in a new generator. Very little, if any, train stuff today.

Mike it's almost dinner time (lunch to you Yankees, supper is the evening meal) and your no doubt on the road. If your eating biscuits and grits you must be in Wilmington, NC. My Daddy was born in Princeton, Johnston Co., NC and my Mom in Wayne Co., NC. They both came to Washington, DC to work after WWII and met each other. I have fond memories of working summers on the family farm in the tobacco fields. Enjoyed railfaning on the ACL, Seaboard, and original Norfolk Southern. I'm just cutting grass today, easier than cropping (picking) tobacco. I may get in some mountain building on the railroad too. Regards Charley.

Charley, I'm sort of a transplanted yankee. Born in Ca., raised in Il., and spent 5 yrs. in Yuma, Az., 1 yr. on Okinawa, Japan, and 5 yrs. at Camp LeJeune, NC. Got out in late '86, went to work in Holly Ridge, NC for 6 yrs., and been in Rose Hill, NC for going on 19 yrs., now. Rose Hill is in Duplin County and I'm well familiar with the counties your parents are from and of course, Wilmington, NC ;D

Had a relaxing day. Started with Church this morning, nap during the Tigers game. Took mom to dinner. As part of her Christmas present we made a coupon book for dinner at the restaurant of her choice once a month. It was the only way my wife and I could figure out how to keep her from trying to pay.
Came home and figured out what was shorting on on my N-scale FA2 DCC install.
All in all it was a great day.

Mike I won't hold that against you. I grew up in Southern Maryland, which was with the south during the war between the states. I now live in Northern Maryland which stood with the Union. My relatives in NC all considered me a "Yankee" anyway. My parents moved to the DC, Maryland area to find work and never went back. I live about one mile from the old B&O (now CSX) railroad's Baltimore to Point of Rocks mainline. Which I enjoy very much for train watching. I often take a walk to see the east bound trains with helpers make it up the Mt. Airy grade. It's not Tehachapi, but still fun. Regards Charley.

Good morning. Last evening we spent getting aquainted in person with an internet friend. I have two locomotives I can operate on my layout without the DCC command station. One is a Bachmann switcher, the other is an MTH F3. They naturally won't play together, so it'll be one or the other for a couple of weeks.

A Good Mother's Day Morning to all the Forum Folks.
Thanks for opening, Terry.
Next to the coffee and tea pots, there are a variety of fresh flower arrangement for any who FORGOT that today was Mother's Day. Not likely, but even if you didn't forget, give some to your mother or your childrens' mother anyway.
Breakfast fare is on the light side, as I'm guessing many will be eating out or having other gatherings where one might overindulge.
Got out back for a while last night and ran a few trains and called my Mother and gabbed for a good bit. Even managed to get dad on the phone for a few minutes.
Terry, do you do a lot of switching on your layout? IIRC you said your switcher was a DCC 70 tonner. I'm contemplating getting the new DCC 44 and 70 tonners, as the older two I have don't run that well and was wondering how your experience with them was.

It's snowing. It's off to church and then come home to run trains with my wife. Don't forget this is Mother's Day. I'm sure if you do, they'll let you know that they didn't.

Okay, I have to revise my earlier statement. The MTH engine won't run using its own power supply and controller. I'm down to the Bachmann switcher. Brother, can you spare a train?

I've got quite a few that could be used to run up some horsepower hours...... Switchers to F-units to some early to mid-GP's. Let me know your needs and I'll get 'em on the next train out!!

It's tough moving those 100 car unit coal trains 4 cars at a time. Any hope of operations comes to a grinding halt.

Good Morning Terry and the rest of the Forum Folks. We'll have to have a word with the cleaning staff. In the meantime, I'll hang a flashlight next to the door!! It's 11:20 a.m. here and I'll be getting ready for work, shortly. So Brunc is the order of the day. The coffees & teas are still fresh brewed. Eggs and bacon are still available, as are sandwiches. Fruits, cereals and yogurts are also on the counter. The drinks, juices and milk are in the cooler. Didn't get as much done yesterday as I'd hoped. Ended up spending waaayyyy too much time in lane at the store. Apparently I got in the line with the least intelligent and slowest cashier. I don't work there, but had to tell how to get past the age/ID prompt when she ran my wine bottle over the reader. She had the deer caught in headlights look and didn't know what to do. That and scan item, bag item, scan item, bag item........... Then when I added money to a gas card, she was lost again. Adam came by and had to help her finish checking me out. I was gone so long LD called to ask if everything was ok!! I know how to shop and get in/out, but I was gone much longer than usual, prompting her call. I did go out and run trains for a bit, last night. After work this evening, I might drag out the backdrop pieces and see if I can staple some to the walls. I know I'll have to repaint some of it and a bit of touch-up here & there. It's not great, but it'll be better than the OSB wall. ;D Hope everyone has a good day.

Last night was a trip back to my youth. I haven't had the cops called on me since I was a teenager, but I did last night. It all started out when some friends came over to jam, and they decided to teach me Zydeco. Well as things progressed, amps became louder, and somebody called the cops on us. The look on the officer's face, when he saw that he'd been called on a bunch of old fogeys, was priceless. By the time he got there we were already done and putting instruments away, so he didn't do anything. When he turned around to leave he told us that next time we should turn up our hearing aids instead of our amps. I feel soooo young again now.

Alberto isn't slated to do much, if anything, for our area. Of course it's track can always change. At the worst, we may get some rain Monday night/Tuesday morning from it. All we can do is wait & see. I'm about 40 - 45 miles north of Wilmington, NC on I-40. We've had some rough hurricanes over the years. Floyd having been the worst in more recent times. I've been in Southeastern, NC since 1981. Christopher, Breakfast for lunch or supper is usually good with me!! Stop by, anytime. There's almost always a fresh pot of coffee and bananas, if Miss Dee has had her fill.
