I am working on the train stores visits and none were open Monday.
Question, what are all the BNSF Coal trains doing in Austel, GAl? RSWX I think were the reporting marks. 2 GEVOS in the front, on on the rear. Have seen 3 so far. Where are the going to and from?

I'd guess those are trains headed to Georgia Power's Plant Scherer in Juliette, GA. The Scherer trains come out of the Powder River Basin on BNSF, then transfer to NS in Memphis. I'm from Memphis and those trains are among the most interesting traffic there.

I believe Plant Scherer at one time was averaging right at 3 coal trains a day, most from the Powder River. I have heard that Scherer is the largest coal fired plants in in the southeast yet on a tour of the Stilesboro plant outside of Catersville, GA one of our guides said that Stilesboro was the largest. All depends in who one asks.
I know one thing for sure the size of the bulldozers and scrubbing equipment being installed at the Stilesboro plant made me feel very small.

Some place is using a bunch of coal that BNSF IS Hauling in. And NS crews are getting a taste of what it's like to work out of a decent locomotive. Toilet? Check. Water cooler? Check. Functioning wipers? Check. Careful, they might get spoiled. ;D

I am working on the train stores visits and none were open Monday. Well maybe you'll still show up on the parking lot security cams. Unless of course you just called. A lot of train stores are closed Monday so they can be open Saturday. I don't mind that near as much as the 6 pm closing times on weekdays, which I still can't comprehend, unless the hobby market truly is predominantly retired folks. I mean, overwhelmingly. I just don't understand the failure of businesses - especially hobby businesses - to be open evening hours for people who actually work during "normal" business hours. I recently checked out a leather shop... one that I thought had gone OOB long ago. We stopped in on a Saturday, but didn't get to do much as the employee was racing us on the other side of the door to lock it at 2:59 pm. Sho nuff, it closed at 3. And it closes early on weekdays too. No wonder retail's pathetic ass is getting kicked by "the internet". Andy

Please do not bring here anything from elsewhere.
