My personal opinion is that people are becoming too easily offended, and about the wrong things.

My personal opinion is that people are becoming too easily offended, and about the wrong things. It's not just people being too easily offended, it's the response to minor offenses by media and the "Twitter-verse" that is also a problem. I guess the cute skinny-dipping and hanky-panky in the cornfield scenes will be the next targets.

I think you just hit it on the head the media spotlight puts everything front and center and not always in a good way.

Seems the PC crowd, media and the other pansies is way to easy to be offended--what's next a Catholic church scene? The hunter on the log and the bear scene? Period cigarette advertisements on the side of transition layout buildings?

I guess the 1950s era chain gang cleaning up the cemetery on my layout wouldn't pass the PC police. What we has heah is a fail-yah to communicate...

Guys I try to stay out of everything politically hot but I guess I'll dive in for just this one time..... First of all, anyone could have moved the figures to show the scene in any light they wish. I'm not sure why it's being blamed on the club. As for the sensitivity level of everything and people constantly being offended by every little thing, I will bite my tongue. Those closest to me know how I feel and if you read between the lines you can probably figure out how I feel as well.

The answer to question is pretty easy.
The person that posed the figures could have:
A. Attempted to provoke thought in the audience, about current events.
B. Thought is was "funny" to take a swing at current events.....PC be damned!
C. Doesn't have a thought in their head and didn't realize what he had done. Thus setting the stage for his club to come under scrutiny by spectators and media.
Seeing that model trains is a mainly made up of white guys. I couldn't fathom a guess at what the scene setter had on his mind when he set it up.

"Attempted to provoke thought in the audience, about current events"
I have done that with scenes on previous layouts.

If a layout on public display at a train show displayed mini-protesters burning a mini-American flag, I bet those who label others as easily offended PC pansies would be singing a different tune...
Of course, it's not the first time controversy has been shown on layouts in our hobby. I remember the tempest in a teapot in r.m.r (and on the old Atlas Forum and in letters to the editor) back when MR published a layout modeling the deep South in the 1950's-'60's that displayed an Army of Northern Virginia flag over a US flag on a courthouse flagpole. Many electrons were killed during those battles.
Heck, layout controversy is not even limited to politics. One of my fellow club members installed scale Giant Redwoods on our layout complete with a billboard sign that read, "Viagra National Forest: Home of the Big Woodies". A point: we're modeling the northeast; there's no redwoods around here. He made those trees just so he could put up that dumb sign. The sign disappeared real quick, and the trees were eventually plucked and replaced as part of a whole scene renewal. When asked why he had done so, the now-former scenery guy said, "'Cause it's funny!" I mean, jeez, we're displaying to the public as a family-friendly event in a town-owned building. We don't need to be crass to be funny; we don't need to tick people off so they won't come back and pay money to see you again.

I love the Viagra Forest sign. I have the Hotel California on my layout. A few feet away there is a billboard advertising the hotel with the tag line, "You can checkout but you can never leave."

I just want to ask one thing: would it have been perfectly ok for a scene where a black trooper is pointing a gun at some white guys?
Where would the outrage have been then?
