According to our local newspaper, it seems as thought there was a glitch in the public unveiling of Metrolink's new Tier 4 locomotive. The locomotive broke down right next to the site of the old SP Saugus train station which is about 300 yards around the bend from the current Metrolink station in downtown Newhall where a crowd led by local politicians was to celebrate its unveiling. According to the article, these are expensive locomotives. I can't get the link function to work, so I copied the link to the article here: signalscv.com/2017/11/metrolinks-tier-4-locomotive-unveiling-stopped-in-its-tracks/

Ahhhh, Government mandates, beta testing on the fly. I wonder if the engineer will file a harassment suit after the 'heated exchange' with the title invoking boss. Must be feeling uncomfortable.
16 year old railfan as a source is interesting.

The article was not well written. Among other inaccuracies, it had difficulty distinguishing between a locomotive and a train. Also the locomotive did not cost $280 million--Metrolink purchased 40 locomotives for that price.
