Is it really too much to ask to properly test and prepare a new website before rolling it out to the public? If you're going to make a big deal about it - at least make sure the new site is properly validated before switching over to it. No images for many items, availability indications are there for some items, but not for others, wish list/saved items didn't get transferred... Not ready for prime time, IMHO.

I miss the old site already. At least you could find things and see pictures. Why is it "new and improved" websites are actually user hostile as a rule.
Hopefully this will get better soon or it is going to hurt sales and drive customers away. I just made an order from Spring Creek and Lombards. I would guess Lombards used similar web software as mbks old site.

I'm not digging it either, but only because the layout changed. As for them adding pictures I'm sure they will eventually. To reupload over 40k pictures is time consuming I'm sure and impossible to have done in 1 day. The site was bound to change seeing as people complained daily about it. I just don't like all the new flashy buttons and the moving images, it's a waste in my opinion.

It works way better on a laptop than a phone. I'll give it a day or two for them to shake out the bugs and upload photos.
More importantly, it looks like a generic wordpress site, but digging into the code it looks like it comes from a company called bigcommerece.com, which makes me helpful that it won't crash and burn like their volusion site would.

MBK is now essentially 98% online sales. The usability of their online site is of the utmost importance. These are the things I need to be working well:
- real-time inventory - account order history - ability to easily search for and find in-stock items by scale, brand name and road name. - ability to see photo's of items
The old site had all of those functions and was fine as far as that goes. The weird thing was sometimes it was actually quite fast, but much of the time it was slow. The software itself didn't seem to be the cause or why would be fast at times? Unless it couldn't handle the number of customers at certain times?
If I could level any criticism is that they should have waited until their new system was 100% working and ALL photo's uploaded before going live. This should have been possible.
Cheers, Jim

Guys, I'll give MBK a few more days to get that mess cleaned up before I find another on line shop. I have been dealing with MBK for the last 17 years and I hate like the blazes to go elsewhere.

They're now showing quantity in stock on the site too. Sweet!

It has been a while since the change and I am still having problems with it. For instance, I recently one of their email promos for vehicles. Over 100 pages. I had gone through quite a few but am only interested in HO scale. I entered "HO scale vehicles" and only a page and a half came up ? Wassup

I'm still seeing some missing pictures when I did a search a few days ago. I have made an order for a single car a week or two ago and it went fine and the shipping charges were only slightly higher than it used to be; around $7.30ish IIRC.

Not as enjoyable as it used to be to shop there. I shop less. The check boxes for things are anoyying. I Preferred drop down menus for easier scrolling. For example when i search for an item, and press the back button after viewing said item, it sends me back a page but then i cannot go forward to my search. Then i must start the search over again.
Also i don't understand why they have a search option for items out of stock. When you run a search items that are out of stock are automatically included. Bad.

The site is not perfect but much improved from the unplanned switch over. I do agree, it's odd that out-of-stock items can be found and not very helpful.
One thing that is especially annoying on the mobile version is the yellow help button on the bottom right hand of the screen. It's very easy to accidentally hit that button when trying to scroll through pages of products. I need to let them know that is a horrible place and to have their web designer move it to the other side of the screen.

The MBK website certainly has been improved. It's actually easy to limit any search to items in stock. What I wish they would bring back is the possibility of specifying a search category of one's choice within a manufacturer or roadname, such as "hopper" or "boxcar".
