I got a chance to get up into the model room and train room to do some rearranging. My wife has made it plain that there will be double decks and no duck under, so I'm starting to prepare for that. I removed the closet doors and am getting that area ready for the helix. I've got a couple hundred model cars and trucks that will be moved over to the model room to make room for the second deck.

One of my N scale rolling stock projects is this Bachmann ACF Center-flo.Other than being lettered for my GVR and grafittied it has a PLANO roofwalk (for the ATLAS ACF) currently has MTL trucks and couplers but plans are for BLMA 100 ton trucks and 1023 (#?) body mounted couplers. I am also planning to lower the brake wheel and mount crossover platforms. (if anyone is interested the PLANO part # is 255)

The Nashville, Chattanooga and St. Louis Railroad was controlled by the Louisville and Nashville from 1880 on, but it wasn't fully merged into the L&N until 1957. With the merger came a fair amount of equipment including some of the famous yellow striped "Dixieland" boxcars. Morning Sun's L&N Color Guide to Freight and Passenger Equipment, Page 6, includes a photo of how the L&N just replaced the NC&StL reporting marks and road number with their own. Not all cars were done at the same time so in my 1963 Approximate Time Period there is NC&StL series 18000 to 18499 and the L&N series 13400 to 13884 which are the same group of cars built in 1942 by Pullman-Standard. The Atlas model is a stand in for the real thing (the ends are quite wrong), but close enough. So it got "the treatment" as you can see above. I have a second copy of this car which I'm going to leave in NC&StL markings.

Finished up a Milwaukee Road Olympian Tap-Lounge and Dining car for a customer this week. These are brass car sides on a core kit with many added details. Note the frosted glass in the kitchen windows was only about 3/4 of the window. Here are a couple of photos comparing the custom built cars with brass cars from Railway Classics

Thought I would post a pic of one of my GVR cars that I just recently finished. It is a older Con Cor 4 bay covered hopper that has had the roofwalk replaced with a GM etched brass version.I have weathered it rather severely to show its age.Since I took this pic I have replaced the trucks with MTL's but plan to eventually replace them with BLMA trucks and body mount the couplersThe MTL trucks will get metal wheelsets today.

My first attempt at weathering a steam locomotive. Having only done diesels before, I was sort of at a loss for where to start and how to go about it. I found a Model Railroader article from August 2002 entitled “Realistic weathering for steam locomotives”. Pretty good article as it breaks the process down into steps that are easy to follow. I'm pretty happy with the results.

Bill,
Your steamer came out very well. You should be proud. I looked at it and my first thought was "He's shifted to HO!"

I realize Tuesday is not the weekend but what the heck I decided to post this pic anyway. ;D I've been fussing with this corner for a couple years never happy with what I put there till now.I have a company name for it but have not gotton around to making the sign for it. The really neat part for me is that the only expence so far is my time.

Here's a finished model of the outside door express car. Also finished up a new addition for my Milwaukee passenger fleet. Combine #207 was used on the former North Woods Hiawatha route for a while and will be put to use in the same service on the Modutrak layout.

During my college years, I worked summers in a paint factory along the Belt Railway of Chicago. I remember watching Milwaukee Road transfer freights going by the building where I worked, Usually with beat up old F-units but sometimes with a pair of GP-9's. I had a great vantage point on one of the upper floors but never brought a camera to work with me. (don't think I had a decent camera until after I graduated) In any case, this photo stirs old memories for me. 98C still looks good after years in passenger service. However, she won't be seeing any Hiawatha like speeds working these transfer runs!
