Looking at a facebook post it looks like he might have copied the cab from an Scale Trains SD40-3.

Exactly. I blew up the pic of that resin turd and it's clearly based on the Walthers model, albeit the low hood one. Nope. The resin thing is a B unit and has all of the features of the Bachmann pre-Spectrum unit. Walthers GP30 is an updating of the Proto 2000 unit which has better fans, etc. Whoever this dude is that's doing this junk has 2 GP30 shells available. 1 is the Bachmann shelled B-unit, the other is the Proto based high hood bash. The Proto based one is wrong. The sheet metal faring above the cab roof is supposed to stop short of the cab front. Proto did their's correct in that manner. In looking at his listing's on Ebay, I'm not sure who would want to waste their money on this crap. But people are buying them. Just look at how many are sold of each shell in each listing. Disgusting, I tell ya. I think I'd prefer (maybe) RPP shells (I had a few at one time) over this crap. Greg

Thanks for the update. Noticed the GP30B/GP30HH difference later. Hadn't been aware of the high nose with cab, but as Greg says, the skyline casing is off. Looks like that might have separate or aftermarket fans. Front Range long ago offered a high nose GP molding that might be a good start for a B or a HH. I still see them at swap meets.

Looking at a facebook post it looks like he might have copied the cab from an Scale Trains SD40-3. He copied a Shapeways admiral, crescent and spongebob cab that someone took hours to design. The person gave up doing stuff because the dog would buy the stuff on shapeways then cast it.

Someone should sic Walthers on this clown, they've got the clout to do some serious damage to him.

It looks like Highliners may have filed a copyright infringement claim and gotten eBay to take down all the Highliner-ized E8 shells and pirated Highliners pilot parts CMR/Puttman had listed , as they're nowhere to be found on eBay anymore.
I'd bet a good half their inventory would be nixed if Athearn went and filed claims for every product of theirs ripped off.

How does Big Dawg/Puttman tie in with Pacific Northwest Resins, which seems to be based in Texas? The photos at least show cleaner castings than the original Big Dawg projects.

He did an RS1325. Used an old Blue Box Athearn SW and something else for the cab and nose. Thing looks horrid! He also did a U30CG. Looks to be the old Hallmark body, cuz it's definitely not the Overland body. It ain't no good, either. That I know for certain, as I own 3 of the Overland's. So it doesn't even compare. Looks like he got his hands on some Broadway Limited N scale E8 bodies and set them up for HEP. Who ever these crackheads are that are doing this stuff, are just cranking this stuff out like there's no tomorrow. As far as the names, just a way to cover himself, I would imagine. It's all being sold thru CMR Products. While I was at Trainfest, I was talking to one of the Walther's Reps, and they know all about this stuff. The problem is, according to him, is it's a little tougher to get him, for some reason. I just wish some company(s), ANY company would shut this crap down, already. He's obviously made quite a bit of money just by looking at how many of the items have sold, and he's raised his prices with just about every new batch of shell's he comes out with. This dude is pretty much the Scum of the hobby. I better stop now before I REALLY start getting pissed off about this! Greg
