When did MB Kliens sell brass and require full payment up front? ScaledRiver: you must be a youngin'. Kliens used to be one of the biggest importers of brass years ago. They had a HUGE display case when you first walked into their store when they were located on Gay St. When I wanted some Overland locos, I had to pony the money up front. But I guess I am dating myself as Overland hasn't imported a loco in years and it has been a few years since Kleins moved from Gay St. Maybe like Overland, Kliens got out of the brass business too.

Then you have not been buying from M.B. Kleins - they make you pay up front for brass when the announcement is made. When did MB Kliens sell brass and require full payment up front? They currently do not list any brass engines which I can locate. Thank you I have purchased Overland brass from Klein in the past. The last new brass I got was a brass N scale SD80MAC.

Dating yourself? Hah! You kids... As a teen I remember drooling all over the glass display case full of Gem, PFM, Alco Models, Custom Brass, etc. brass models at the legendary Blum's Hobby House in downtown Cleveland way back in the Seventies! Now get off my lawn ;D !

Not having seen brass at MBK doesn't necessarily make one a youngin here. I didn't move to the greater Washington DC area until 9 years ago and have only darkened the door of MBK since then. I don't remember seeing any brass since then that I recall; I don't think I'd be classified as a youngin anymore.
When I was a teen in the 1970's and got my own wheels (a used 1971 Ford Pinto for $600 IIRC - yes I had the fuel tank recall taken car of - I used to drive over to Sacramento to The Original Whistle Stop on Marconi Avenue and they had a good deal of brass there. Of course I was a poor teenager and lawn mowing money wouldn't fund any brass purchases. There was also the hobby shop in the Arden Fair Mall which had brass in glass cases as well. I bought a bunch of Vanishing Vista's post cards of D&RGW passenger trains there, which I still have.
Speaking of "get off my lawn" I had to say that to a teen who moved in next door and thought it was ok to throw a ball back and forth using his lawn and mine a field. I had just put down combination weed killer/fertilizer as well. Grrrrrr! We have the worst luck; every time people move in next to us, they seem to be trouble. At least we aren't in a town house now where we share a wall with jerks who play loud music. The new neighbors have been doing all kinds of things wrong, driving ATV's and "Farm use" motor cycles on the neighborhood streets and park foot paths, and now they are setting up a pool with no fence around it. I guess the local authorities will have to get them civilized, ahem.

Speaking of Klein’s, a friend I know who shops there says they are exploring finding a new location with more parking and easier access for shipping and receiving.
That would be noteworthy if it occurs.
Thank you

That would be good. With MBK having cut their space into 1/3 of the old space if you go on show day, it's not the best shopping experience.

Well to close out my shopping experience, my CSX car arrived today, very well packed. Interesting prototype and I had no idea these cars existed until I found the Spring Mills website last year. This thread motivated me to actually order one, and I'm glad I did. Nice car.

Back in the '70's, I would see the occasional can-stock car around Oakland, CA. Continental Can had a plant just south, so I would guess they went there.
