I have several loco's I bought that came with QSI sound that is unimpressive. This month Sound Trax has an offer to upgrade certain brands which include the QSI it appears. soundtraxx.com/June-promo-form.pdf I have a couple of Atlas GP40-2 with QSI - and a sound Walthers P2K F7AB set. Can someone who knows decoders better than I point me to which TSU2 would be correct for those loco's?

Much appreciated James. TSU2 PNP. So I assume EMD diesel. Or are there multiple EMD diesel.
I assume I will need the non-turbo 1500 567 diesel for the F units. The GP40-2 had a 3000 HP 645 diesel. Or are they all rolled into one EMD sound decoder?

Thanks. While I haven't bought any of the ST decoders in the past, I thought TSU1 had to be ordered for the engine type to get the correct sound. It appears now the new TSU2 must have enough memory to hold a wide variety of sounds so now all you have to do is buy the right "company" (EMD, GE, ALCo, etc.) and select the prime mover and horn etc. That simplifies things.

The new TSU2 does contain all the sounds you need from the 567 to the 710G3. I just installed two I got for this promo into two P2K GP30's that had QSI. Now they sound nice and not just "some noise". These are the first two TSU2's in EMD I have installed. I prefer ESU Loksound, especially for GE and ALCO but Soundtraxx is pretty nice on EMD. I have one TSU2 early in ALCO that is OK.
Setting a CV is how you select the engine sound.

James. Good to know. From the sounds I've heard of the ESU Loksound's for EMD and others, they really sound good. Unfortunately all the loco's I've bought which come factory equipped have not been offered with Loksound so far. Hopefully in the future I"ll be able to buy some factory equipped.
But if the TSU2 EMD are good, then it may be worth it for me to take advantage of the upgrade offer this month. I can use the QSI equipped engines for it.
- Is the TSU2 PNP also good for the Atlas GP40-2?
- Who has the best prices on the TSU2?

Jim, sorry I missed the last reply. If you need to replace some QSI's now is the time to do it with TSU2's. The only problem is you are limited to two decoders for trade. Soundtraxx updated their requirements for trade ins with a full list.
The TSU PNP is good for the. Atlas GP40-2. This board has been redesigned for most models except the Photo 2000's that came with QSI. I just covered the weight with electrical tape and hard wired the decoder in. I prefer a soldered connection anyway.
Best prices, well MB Klein had 5% off the other day, not sure if it is still good.

It looks like the 5% off is good thru the 19th. I took advantage of the 5% off but only because I ordered the sound decoder with a freight car.
Fyi, you can actually get the TSU2 decoder cheaper on Ebay because there are vendors selling them for about the same price as MBK but free shipping. It appears that even with the 5% off, the shipping may put the total slightly higher than the Ebay offerings, or at worst break even. Bottom line, if you miss out on 5% offer, you can still get them on Ebay. Of course the end-of-June dead line for the Sounttraxx offer is still there.
