Looking to pick up a few GP60s; SP/SSW/DRGW and maybe ATSF GP60M/Bs. Anyone have experience with both? Which is better detail wise , more dimensionally correct, and which run better? I know Athearn has done them, but as far as I know they are the old Rail Power Products item and are "off" Pic I took in 1994 for fun. .

The Fox Valley are better, as far as detailing. The Walthers pull better, simply because they weigh more. The Walthers runs smoother and a little quieter, the Fox Valley has pretty fragile handrails, so be careful with them.

I had six Proto GP60’s and sold them. I replaced them with Fox Valley and could not be happier. I grabbed four off eBay for $100 or less with sound. I have six Athearn Santa Fe GP60M/B’s that I would like to replace.

.....the Fox Valley has pretty fragile handrails, so be careful with them. Especially the front and rear ones. When the FV GP60's first came out I had broken front handrails before the engines were removed from the box. To FV credit, they did replace them. Bob

I have both. The Fox Valley ones are better detailed, but do have an issue with handrails. The only issue I have with the Fox Valleys is I don't like the job they did on the truck sideframes, not as well done as the Proto's truck sideframes, which actually look like knock offs of the Athearn ones. The old Athearn Blue Box GP-60 is wrong, its too short, and the RTR ones are the old RPP tooling. Which have issues of their own.

I've noticed the same thing about the FV side frames - they appear a little to angular and flat. I used to have a D&RGW Proto GP60, which I thought was a pretty nice model for it's time and has held up well I thought in terms of fidelity etc. However, I have have wholesale abandoned the 1990+ time period and sold my GP60; the GP60 dilemma is for me moot now.

I have four Proto 2000 too me they run just like Athearn's. If I remember correctly, the P2K GP60's (pre-Walthers and not counting re-runs) were the last of the P2K locomotives with the "Athearn clone" motor, trucks, gears, etc. The U-Boats, RS27's, and GP38-2's had different parts under the shell - for better or for worse. Other issue crept up including incompatible gearing, questionable DCC-readiness, and the soft detailing on the Blomberg M trucks under the GP38-2's.
I had a P2K GP60 (in NS) and sold it. Later when I wanted to do another, I went with the Fox Valley Model. Couple pointers that one may consider. First, the handrails are fragile on the FVM GP60's as others have mentioned. Second, some of the details, like the toilet hatch on the nose, come molded on the shell. I don't know how big of an issue that will be for you. Third (and this is highly subjective), I replaced most of the details on both GP60's with the DW detail part kit. You get railroad-specific details that both models, as good as they are, miss because they are mass-produced.

Fox Valley are probably going to be cheaper, or at least easier to come by, too. Last year they dumped what was left over and they were slow to move out because my cost was about what they were going for on eBay. I may even still be able to get a couple of roadnames yet, I'd have to look.

The FV ones have the wrong radiator fans—look more like GP40 fans. And there is no easy to obtain replacement (SD70 fans are different). They also are done the same way as the P2K SD45 fans are (inset into recessed lips) making replacement even harder, if you got the right fans.
I like the running, lights, and paint of the FV ones, but the totally wrong fans and ultra-fragile handrails turned me off from replacing my P2K ones.
