Has anyone else here signed on for this? It looks like a really awesome day trip. My fiance and I are signed up to go, she's never been on a "real" train so shes almost as excited as I am.

I don't live in the Chicago area but the VRE here in northern Virginia does occasional excursions to give people train rides. Also the N&W steam engine had run excursions here too although the tickets were a bit pricey.
I don't think my wife has ridden any American trains (she is from England) but hopefully one day we can ride one together. I've ridden the San Francisco Zephyr twice back in the mid-1970's from Sacramento to Denver and from Osceola IA to Sacramento. Also the California Zephyr from Chicago to Osceola IA in 1983 and in 1990 this time all the way to Sacramento (thru the Rockies of course!) and back. We even had D&RGW GP40-2 3113 as the pilot locomotive on the return trip to Denver Union Station, which was cool. I've ridden the Lake Shore Limited to Chicago and back from Syracuse NY as well in the 1990's. Wish I had more time for train travel as it is an enjoyable way to travel!

Here is a link to some of the pics I took during the excursion. It was a ton of fun and really interesting to see a lot of the locations I've only ever seen pictures of. Its also really neat that Metra takes a genuine interest in they're heritage. They even had a couple retired Rock Island employees along for the ride to point out the interesting things along the way. There's also some bonus pics in the album for any folks that have an interest in architecture. www.pbase.com/edgecrusher/white_river_rocket_excursion&page=all
