I have been watching these last couple of Sundays but today with a winter storm pounding down I wanted to add these contributions. This is a Southern 5029 PS box done from and Accurail. Found one photo of this series car with the Evans Airpak logo, only southern car I have seen carry it. Next is an ongoing build of a Southern FGE built box. Southern ordered these in several number series(100, 200, 600, 700 and 585000). Most ordered in 1979 thru 1982.

Excellent box cars, James! Those are both prototypes that I’ve always wanted to see models of. I have one of the Accurail box cars, but I never thought of building that PS box car with it. Is the FGE car kitbashed from Athearn’s RBL? Love those FGEs: Dave

Great work all around. This stuff really gets me in the spirit! I printed some water bottles and a cooler last week: I also printed a caboose body kit for SAL 5760, an extended vision caboose with a non-overhanging roof and riveted construction. I've only seen two photos of it, so I've had to make some best guesses about the roof from those photos. It may or may not be correct.

The panel aft of the cupola on the non vent side should not have any Stanray corrugations. The smoke jack is the only obstruction/item on that particular panel.

The decaling spree continues Also installed snowplows on these atlas/kato (newer atlas shell, kato drive) hybrids: I may end up having to make my own cut levers as the factory atlas ones end up hitting some rib on the back of the plow. Eventually I'll add windshield wipers and anti-slip devices.

Yup. I picked mine up during one of those monthly exactrail sales. Luckily all the data looks the same save for the reweigh date. I’ll have to come up with decals for that.

Dave,
The first car only used the floor and sides from the Accurail car. The roof is Athearn Genesis and the ends are resin castings.
The FGE is uses the sides and floor from the Walthers NACC car. The ends and door are resin castings. The roof is a splice of a Branchline roof to get the 52ft.
I am really in need of underneath shots to place the brake parts and piping. Might someone have some good detail shots of the under frame of an FGE.

Did you make the windows on those? Trying to find a technique for that.

I haven't done any modeling in a while, but I got back to my workbench this week and built these two resin kits. A 65 Barracuda, and a 65 Toronado. Did you make the windows on those? Trying to find a technique for that. Not on these. They both came with vacuum formed glass. The Toronado glass fits much better than the Cuda's though. On kits without glass, I make my glass from Scotch tape. (I should have used it on the Cuda) The glass on these Chevelle wagons were done with tape pressed to the outside chrome trim and trimmed with a razor blade. It looks better than any vacuum formed glass I've seen. 1/87 scale Chevelle wagons. imgur.com/gallery/mH44f

Seems like it's been ages since I spent any quality time at the workbench. I had this half finished BN Diffco side dump car sitting there. Those Walthers Diffco cars lack a whole lot of detail and look very lacking for it. I added a whole bunch of air piping, brake rigging, handrails, cut levers and air hoses to make the model look like something. It's a lot of work, but well worth detailing the exposed underside of these cars. It's now ready for some detail painting and weathering. Thinking about making a removable load of rip-rap too. flic.kr/p/2cbiLCg

A project I did last year, but never took a decent photo of. Montana Talc had a plant at Sappington, MT and had both boxcars and hoppers painted for their company. The Atlas PD hopper was a spot on match for the car, and Islington Station made the decals. I have a slide of a Montana Talc 60' Greenville Double door boxcar on the way, but I will need to make my own decals in that case.

I printed some ends for that exact SOU car series, but they don't perfectly match those Monon ones.

The ends were cast from a Southern waffle boxcar. I cut them to match the car height between the top small rib and the peak. The cast resin parts are available here: tonysissons.zenfolio.com/p863008052I plan on posting the whole clinic to my RPM groups on GroupsIO in the near future. Take a look around the above link for some useful etches as well.

Artur, Send Tony an email and use his description of the picture and he will let you know. Some items are pre-priced and are custom(built to order) Here is the home page: tonysissons.zenfolio.comLook below the his picture and there is a send message. He takes some time to produce items and this is a hobby for him. But I can say that the wait is worth the detail you will receive for the price of his work.

Colin, They look pretty much the same to me. I believe with some work they could be made to work for that project. These were originally cast to so a Southern 5277 PS boxcar. I have yet to find a good starting model for that but am leaning towards the IM 5277. My RPM group is here: groups.io/g/RPMclinics-JamesWall

Colin, I don't think they are. Tony's ends are the sine wave style of non terminating end that PS used from sometime in the late 60s until ~1975, when they changed to the trapezoidal shape. The Monon car looks like some variant of the normal bowtie end, but with inset instead of rounded corners. For the sake of being complete here, the early sine wave ends from the mid 60s (as were on those SOU cars) had a flattened top "wave" where the lettering was placed.
What decal set did that air-pak logo come from? I was planning on doing mine as what is probably the same car, just because I also liked the lettering.

Rob is correct on the decal set. I worked with Hubert Mask for this set specifically for the AirPak logo. Only Southern car I have seen it on.
