Look at their other ACF center flow cars...and you should have your answer. I doubt they will be much different than those...decent models...but not $50 cars.

But I imagine they will still MSRP around $50.

I'm predicting over $50. The latest run of ACF 4650s using existing, presumably long-paid-for tooling will retail for $45.

Price and quality of the Multimax will determine if I buy atlas or not... I really hope another manufacturer makes these or another version Trinity or whomever NSC makes new takes too don’t they? These are suppose to be Gunderson versions

NSC makes a rack, but slightly different from UP's Auto-Flex version. www.railcarphotos.com/PhotoDetails.php?PhotoID=83520Darrell Sawyer

The current Athearn RTR 55'ACF 4-bay covered hopper is listed at $23.98. After adding a Plano etched roofwalk kit for $12.50, $4.75 for wheels (Exactrail code 88 wheels for me), and $2 for couplers, that leaves just $6.77 left for miscellaneous materials, paint and decals, and build time.
$50 for the new Atlas hopper is not much of a stretch when you consider what it would take to bring the Athearn version even remotely close to what the Atlas car will already be. It's only when you need more than a few that your wallet starts "showing concern".

Kinda looks like they may not be doing the early high brake wheel version. That would be the GN ones. The ones I most wanted. Ed

Anyone know if the Multi-Max will have metal sides or plastic? I am kind of assuming that if they were doing metal they'd say so in the flyer, but I would like some confirmation.

It seems, at least by the drawing, that the Atlas car will be equipped with molded-on grab irons. Is that a game changer? Not really. Is it a price changer? It should be...
Well, let me backtrack. I don't know what the price is going to be, so ill reserve my comment until we have more information.

I would like the 1967 version of this. I think this might be a disappointment for me - the walkway has too many support to match anything from the 1967 to 1970's. The outlets look very modern. So might be one of the cases were you take 100 photos from 1967 to present, and get ideas from each one - and then try to make it all work together. The coupler appears to be the accumate design, which if like the last Atlas boxcar models, which comes with two different coupler boxes, these are not very desirable.

Donnell Donnell: I enlarged the drawing of the announced auto rack from Atlas and all details appear to be separately-applied. The Atlas Master Thrall Articulated has excellent detailing considering it's been around for awhile. I expect this piece of rolling stock to be even better but it will be expensive and will sell out in no time RMT

Regarding the running boards, it looks like they have multiple layers turned on in the CAD drawing, so that early and late running boards overlap each other. Same thing with the outlets, stiffener and hatches.

It’s almost certainly a single CAD drawing with multiple layers. And in this picture all the layers were turned on :-)

If the 5250 detail is 4650-level, I'll buy a couple (though not for $50.) If it's 5701-level, then I'll give it the same $15 price cap I put on those.

At the Springfield show the other day I was talking to one of the Atlas guys about these cars. He said the research and drawings are done, everything has been sent out for bids on tooling. Once the bids come back they will announce pricing, delivery timelines, and road names. He said both the covered hopper and auto rack are at the same stage.

As far as the early version goes, I heard back from Atlas: “Details of each of the versions will be released as they are officially announced.”
