Another Sunday and another photo thread. Since no one had started one, I figured I would lead things off by posting a photo taken yesterday at a local railroad museum of the Spectrum 2-6-6-2 that I found at a train show earlier this year. C&O 1524 by James Bilbrey, on Flickr Apologies for the slight blurriness in the photo. I recently stepped up from a point-and-shoot digital camera and my cell-phone to a DSLR camera. And, I am still learning to use it. I also need to go back and read the article on digital photography in the last issue of RMC. That's something I can work on in the upcoming weeks.

Long time forum lurker, first time forum poster. Thought I'd share what I've worked on this week. The tie load happened this week because I got bored and needed to find something to do. I ripped the ties from 1/4" balsa wood stock I had laying around, and then used 6 different methods of staining the ties so I'd get some variety. The car itself is a kitbash made from two old Model Die Casting 40' gondolas and still needs a few things in order to be finished, couplers being the most obvious thing it needs. Hope you're all enjoying your weekend. Timothy

Finished my New Lines West Milwaukee Road Thrall Caboose. This is the pre production kit and is pictured on Mark and Dave Schroedle's Beer Line Layout. A very nice kit. But I noticed I broke one of the Platform end rails that I will have to fix. George Toman

This week I've been working on some Genesis WM F7s which has so far consisted of removing a few parts and repairing a bit of previous owner damage. While I don't have much to show off from that project, I did also finish redesigning the paint scheme for my Coal River. The original scheme I had was a blue dip job with scare stripes, which I didn't feel fit well enough with the concept of "simple but classy." I think it will look right at home in 1970s Appalachia.

It's been a while since I posted due to family matters on the weekends, here is some stuff I have done lately. Kadee 50' HF60 PS1 Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II ATSF Red and Black Paints, the lettered with Highball Graphics decals. Car was a 1962 purchase that was upgraded in 1971 with the new BAR Paint Scheme removing the Red, White and Blue State of Maine Products lettering with a new logo showing the coastline, mountains and wood products. This car was used in moving paper products from the mills in Maine across the country. First up is an Eastern Car Works ACF 1958 CF Covered Hopper kit, added A-Line Sill Steps and the apppropriate air lines for the brake system, also replaced the plastic cast roofwalk with a Plano Roofwalk. Car was painted with Scalecoat II UP Covered Hopper Gray paint and lettered with Mask Island Decals. Could not find a lot of information on these cars, although the Libbey Owens Ford Company received their LOFX reporting marks in 1942 and kept them until the 1970's. I have to assume they were used for hauling silica sand to make glass to their factories in IL and Rossford, OH. Next up is the first batch of NYC PS1 Boxcars made from the IMRC kit, painted with Scalecoat II Mixture of Oxide and Boxcar Red paints and Black for the roof and ends. Lettered with Speedwitch Media Decals, car was used in general service. Next, I did a second Intermountain Railway FMC 5283CF Double Door Boxcar kit for the MILW. Car was painted with Floquil GTW Blue paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Purchased for the lumber trade out of the Pacific Northwest, cars were sold to the BAR after a couple of years. A couple of shots from the Strongsville Ohio Club Layout of mine and Mike Madura's cars and locomotives. Mikes are the Erie FA's with a coal drag, mine are New Haven U25B and C425 with a mixed freight. A picture I took last week at the Strongsville Club of my Atlas RS-32's that i detailed to match NYC unit pictures. Hauling a mixed freight on the lower level mainline. Thanks for looking! I had a chance to start adding detail to my F7B, so here's the first of its drop steps:

And in an odd twist of fate, the former Milwaukee cars ended up patched for the Soo Line after BAR lease was up.

Finally finished my VTTX 60' container flatcar. This is the recent Walthers model with a number of extra details including cut levers, air brake hoses and brake gear. This is from the first batch of cars that came out in March. The second batch of cars came out a few weeks ago and sold out right away. Since then they've been going for big money on E-bay. I saw one sell for $102. They are nice cars, wish I had bought a second one now.
