I replaced the cast on ladders with Tangent grabs on my other two Trainman bulkhead flats. I replaced the stirrups on these latest cars with Detail Associates parts (left) rather than make my own from brass (right). The homemade stirrups are a better match in terms of size but the DA parts are way easier. Maybe I can get the cut levers installed and shoot some yellow paint in the next couple days.

Finishing up a difficult week at work so nothing new from me except a bit of a tease. This car is one I scratch built, since then Walthers has released the same basic flatcar and I have 3 in the stripper tank, I think they'll be getting some new bulkheads added to them. Work isn't all bad, here's some random shots from the back side of the building, this at South Portal (Great Northern's tunnel underneath downtown Seattle) DPU on the back end of 110 unit coal gons. At 6:00AM it's plenty dark the tracks here are station sidings from King Street, (Amtrak and Sounder trains)angling in to re join the north bound BNSF main. I usually ride our Light Rail into work and avoid Seattle's traffic, occasionly I drive, the elevated dock on the building is my private gated parking spot - One of very few perks.

Ryan, those mods on the builkhead cars look great. I'm a huge fan of taking "lesser" cars and doing simple upgrades. A little bit of work can make a cheap model into something that will fit right in with today's highly detailed models. Here's one I had a great time with. I bought this Walthers Mainline 60' car for $19. It's really not a bad model, given the price point, and it's the only model available for this prototype. The details are all molded on, except for the door rods, but the body and overall tooling is crisp. Paint is good as are the data and heralds. I removed all the molded on details and replaced as necessary. The ladders are all Exactrail parts (really nice parts). The brake platforms are Plano, as are the cut levers. The crossover grabs, stirrups, and underframe brake rigging are all brass wire. Kadee modern brake wheel, and Tangent semi-scale wheels. Sergent long shank E's rounded it out. The factory paint and lettering was left on, and I faded the yellow to a more appropriate color. I weathered the car as it would appear circa 2016 when it was fairly new. Some mild grime and dirt build up, mild panel waves, some added data per the prototype, and a couple small tags. -Kevin

Managed to complete a couple of cars this week. Intermountain 40' PS1 Boxcar kit, painted with a mixture of Scalecoat II Roof Brown and Boxcar Red to try and match photos of how most of the CMJ's boxcars were painted and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was one of 50' built for the CNJ and were probably the last new boxcars the CNJ ever received. Next is a Tangent 4000CF PS2 Covered Hopper kit, painted with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Tangent made these cars with three different numbers, but as an NKP Modeler I wanted more of these cars, so I built my own with new numbers. Car was used in general grain service. Tangent 70 Ton 52' Bethlehem Steel Gon kit, to be built and painted for one of the railroads that owned these cars. A custom built U25b and C425 that were detailed for the New Haven and photographed on the Strongsville Club layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

Those are some SWEET automobiles. That Vega would look great in a scene with Exactrail's Vert a Pak's. To bad the side doors don't open on them.

The Impala and Vega are impressive. Any Ver-t-pacs for the Vegas?

Some beautiful work here this weekend. Love all of the bulkhead flatcars. I'm working on an old MDC bulkhead, which isn't exactly prototypical for TTX (I believe it's loosely based on a BN prototype), and trying to make it at least look decent. No photos as of yet, but as I make progress with it, I'll be happy to share.

I have several undecorated cars, and I plan to detail at least one of them. Those TBOX cars are way out of my '90s modeling era, but I've always enjoyed seeing them while railfanning. I also have a couple of the NSC prototype that Hubert's produced years ago, which was the only correct TBOX model up until the Walthers version arrived. That one isn't as good of a model, but it would be interesting to finish one of each to show the differences in the TBOX orders. Great stuff this week, everyone! Dave

The autos are fabulous as always, John. And that TBOX is gorgeous. I love how you save the factory paint Kevin.

Overloaded BN ballast car. The model is a Atlas Hart Ballast car. I added the Trains Canada trucks with the converted journals.

Overloaded BN ballast car. The model is a Atlas Hart Ballast car. I added the Trains Canada trucks with the converted journals. Very nice! It's got the look of having been enveloped in the ballast dust cloud from dumping many times. I like the few stray stones on the handbrake platform - nice touch. Those trucks are nice, too. I sure wish we could get Barber Bettendorf caboose trucks with converted journals. I've got a place for a few of them.
