The first of my two Walthers GTTX G85 flats, I've added cut bars, hoses a couple of grabs, brake rod and chain, plus ACI and COTS plates, what a nice model! Kudos Walthers. Here it's loaded with two Trainworks trailers. This car would have come off the BN connection at Denver as a westbound load on my mid '70s D&RGW.
Happy Sunday - Go Chiefs!

A Couple of weeks of completed projects. A couple a weeks ago I showed the parts for a Tangent 70 Ton 52'6" Bethlehem Steel Gon, here is the completed model painted with Scalecoat II Black Paint and lettered with Herald King Decals. Gon was in general service on the Reading. Atlas 50' FMC 5347CF Boxcar Kit, painted with Scalecoat II Silver, Big Sky Blue and Black Paints and lettered with Herald King Decals. Car was part of the IPD boom of the late 70's and early 80's until the Staggers act changed the rate setting for these cars. Many short lines purchased lots of Boxcars to alleviate the box car shortage and in the mid 80's found all of the back with no customers. IMRC 40' PS1 boxcar made in the 50's with an early 70's. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Boxcar Red and lettered with Mask Island decals. Used in general service on the ATSF. Next, a Walther's Bay Window Caboose kit, that is standing in for a Southern Bay window caboose which had different steps and window configurations. There was a Wright Trak Kit for this caboose that was a bear to build and it may reappear from another kit maker. Car was painted with Scalecoat II Reefer Yellow, ATSF Red and Black Paints and lettered with Mask Island Decals. The yellow bay window designates the caboose as used in local service. Started working on a Tangent PD 4740CF Covered Hopper kit. Nice kit with a lot of similarities to the Exactrail 4427CF Covered Hopper kit. Picture from the Strongsville Model Railroad Club with a pair of Athearn GP38-2's for the DT&I passing the off loading facility for covered hoppers at the club. They are hauling a mixed freight with the first cars being hauled for Campbell's Soup at Napoleon, OH A Pair of Athearn Genesis F7's with a coal drag on the Strongsville Club layout. Thanks for looking! Rick Jesionowski

OMG, Ryan that B30-7 is outstanding even at this stage of construction. I'm pretty sure there would be a market for these. Bob

Here's a couple Athearn early release RTR SD40-2. That version only had the styrene fuel tank and see through fans. The rest was pretty much "Blue Box" These have been an on and off project for a couple years. Frame milled to accept filters and Kato Motor Do wish I would have addressed the tread. Bob

The weathering and photography are excellent.

Can you do a '68 Chrysler? I've got a 67 Chrysler 300 coupe on the long list. No 68 though.

Great stuff this week! Seeing all the projects and models you guys are working on gets me motivated. Here's a sneak peak of an engine I'm just about wrapped up on. I have a few more minor things to do then I'll call it done. I had a couple minutes this morning to shoot a quick shot while the sun was coming up so I took advantage of it. Not a very useful shot to evaluate the model....just something artsy and interesting. Kind of like half the shots I see on rrpicturearchives.net....useless for modeling purposes but interesting to look at. -Kevin

Awesome TOFC there. That GN is the only drop frame from the first run that missed out on. Still hunting.

Good stuff as usual. Here's one of my Walthers G85s. I didn't replace any of the brake gear like Tbird did, but I did add some wire grabs, .88 wheels, and some paint/decal/weathering. The YS container is from Walthers, and the chassis is an Athearn kit. The EMC container is Athearn, and the chassis is a undec kit from American models I painted and lettered for Evergreen. I've been on a vintage TOFC and COFC kick for the last year, and the G85 certainly fits in with my late 70s and early 80s theme... GTTX 300382 by Freight Engineer, on Flickr

Here is hoping we get some more 1970s era Intermodal soon.

If Trainworx can finally get out the next run of 40' trailers I've been waiting on f-o-r-e-v-er, that would be great for more trailers for the flat cars.

I am having a field day creating some loads for my gondolas. I am color blind which makes any sort of weathering a challenge.

I've always passed the color blind tests and that looks real rusty! Major rust going on there.

Thanks!
This year I am trying to expand beyond shake-the-box kits. This is not a good hobby for color blind people. My parents had a clue I was color blind when I colored my skies purple/

Purple skies. You aren't a Prince fan are you? What kind of kits are you planning to expand into?

A few things. I have some intermountain 40' kits I am going to finish putting together. They aren't that hard, I think. Oddly, I found he Accurail covered hopper kits to be harder. Snapping that body into the frame was a challenge.
I am also modelling an un-prototypical UP OCS train. Paying $80 a whack for the Walther's cars gets expensive fast. I have some of the Budd cars with the fluted sides I am using. Fails the rivet counter test, but passes the budget test. I do need to make a power car. The correct baggage/dormitory car I need to base it from goes for $120 on eBay. I do not want to take a razor saw to an expensive model, so I am creating a "close enough" from the Budd Baggage/Dorm.
I am also going to try scratch building a transfer caboose.
