On the 5/12 Athearn Train Tuesday they said they might produce the RRMX gondolas (Robertson's Ready Mix Agregate train). Now that would be a boring train to model. Interesting take. Why would it be more or less boring than any other unit train?

Nothing really caught my interest skipping thru their home-in presentations. However, not sure if any comments brought forth from the participants about the resurrection of the T-Rex of all box cars, the 86' Auto Parts blue Box four door Greenvile's & eight door Thrall's. Wish I had been available to throw the question out.

Hmm.. was there mention of resurrecting the 86' auto parts box cars? I'm definitely interested in a HQ version.

Don't recall anything said, but as always contact Athearn requesting it as they (like most/all of the manufacturers) track that stuff.
And for those who don't like Facebook, Athearn is using something so that it is held at the same time on both Facebook and YouTube and they do pick up comments/suggestions made on the YouTube feed for highlighting/discussing if you have a YouTube/Google account

Good to know. I don't know enough about the Athearn 86' boxcar basic dimeensions and shell. If it is accurate, it may be a good candidate for upgrading maybe.

I personally have 24 Atlas Coalveyors waiting in queue to be converted for rock train service just like the prototype Coalveyors were.

Are the prototypes rotary dump cars or are they unloaded with a bucket? They are gravity dump cars. There are clam-shell doors at the bottom of the hopper that open either pneumaticly or electrically.

Yes, this is a regional train. It travels back and forth from the quarry at Cabazon, CA to the Robertson Ready Mix plant in Gardena, CA, a little over 100 miles away.

June 16th : recollections (no accuracy guarantee)
- Chris (brand manager) has left by his own choice, remains on good terms, Athearn is interviewing candidates to replace him. - announcement artwork - problems can be reported and artwork changed up until the order deadline - SD7/9 - have looked into, as well as others that would fit that chassis - Mack trucks - license issues - big increase in new license means price would be too high to be viable - Amazon trailers - would really like to do, sent request to Amazon licensing dept. months ago and haven't heard anything - Siemens Charger - yes, they were working on it - they received notice from the IP holder to stop, that only Bachmann can do a model - 89' flats - likely in 2020 - something up their sleeve regarding the DD?? diesels - gas turbines - plans so stay tuned - SD50/60 to Genesis - absolutely but not in a timely manner, lots of new stuff currently taking up the production pipeline - VIA P42 - still working on licensing - if you want them then preorder them so you get them if they do get made.

^ Now I just have to find a place to preorder a VIA P42. Trainworld doesn't typically stock VIA.
Street Price: $246.48 with sound.

June 16th : recollections (no accuracy guarantee) - something up their sleeve regarding the DD?? diesels Now let me run through the long list of DD trucked diesels. Done. I'm not aware of any big flaws that need work on the Centennials (LED's, rubber hoses, lit numberboards). That leaves the DD35's. Hooray! Only puzzlement is what they're gonna put on each end of the EMD demonstrator set. Ed

Chris did a great job as Athearn's ambassador to the modeling community, I wish him well and I hope they find someone to fill his shoes. As for the Charger, that's interesting. Reminds me of when Walthers had the sole license to Amtrak's current logo and paint scheme. That lasted about 10 years IIRC. Hopefully Bachmann's model is worthy of being the only game in town for a long while. Their ACS-64 is okay, the detailing is so-so and it doesn't pull very well. Athearn would have done much better job for sure.

I seem to remember people questioned the fact I've said the SD50/60 would go to Genesis for several years now. Since 2012. Guess I know a few things after all. Dave

Dave It's always seemed like a no-brainer to me. The tooling is very nice, so all that's required to make it Genesis is a few detail parts. Alternatively, all the end user has to do is add a few detail parts, if that's your thing. I just need to put some sound units in mine.

Since 2012. Guess I know a few things after all. Dave As Ryan mentioned, seems like a no-brainer. But if a prediction was made 10 or 11 years before the model comes to fruition, odds aren't bad could happen after that much time goes by. Just sayin ... I sold off my SD50's after back dating so any new Genesis versions might be stretching my timeline but I might be coerced when they eventually are done; but it sounds like it's going to be a couple more 2 or 3 years yet. First they gotta get the funding, get the mods in and then in the factory queue and announced and then wait a year for them to hit our shores.

FWIW, it was me who asked about the SD50/60. Been hearing that rumor for years now, which I think started back when Shane from ST was still at Athearn.
