Compare the Arrowhead Cars’ 199 parts to a Rapido passenger car with 163 parts...like their new “finer diner”. That says a lot about intricate detail and design to me...since Rapido is considered the gold standard for passenger car detail; and Arrowhead makes freight cars...

I'm not going to compare models designed by others to Blaine's Arrowhead cars; or his ExactRail projects...as I always get a phone call or two about my comments on these forums... I've received similar phone calls and emails. Exactly why I started this discussion.

Yeah, but does that have anything to do with today?

From Arrowhead website:
"all new freight car announcement"
"more details to come, July 1"
perhaps one of the details is that the actual announcement will be on July 10.

So no actual freight car announcement today? Just an announcement that there will be an announcement at a later date? Tangent's model is 100 times better. Silence, silence, silence, BOOM!......here's an awesome new model. BUY IT TODAY.

Looks to be the case. Apparently June 1 was only supposed to be a teaser, "more details to come" which implies some partial information such clues. So it's now June 10. *sigh* I prefer the Dave Lehlbach method - no teasers, just out of the blue - here it is, x, you can order now or order date x. Help ya selves!

So we'll get both the announcement and the actual product on July 10th. Speculation on which freight car would prompt an exclusive deal with Lombard Hobbies in the Chicago suburbs...?

Yep, July 10th now. July 1 appears to be a teaser date. The comments regarding July 1 had me feeling a disturbance in the schwartz. It does appear Lombards has a connection with Arrowhead somehow. And remember, Lombards was/is selling Arrowheads hoppers in six-packs for about half price. I picked up a six-pack of Rio Grande when the deal was first up and they've been sold out for a while, but it looks like the Southern and PRR are still in stock at last check.

What is that in the tumbler with the lemon slice? Not ice tea. Whisky with lemon? Looks pretty chilled out there! Hmm... "practically essential from the 1980's to the present and it's not what you think." I don't buy much past around 1980/81 so we shall have to see ...

It does appear Lombards has a connection with Arrowhead somehow. We love Lombard Hobby! They are a great dealer for us. That said, there is no connection with Lombard that makes our relationship with them different from any of our other dealers. We thought that it would be cool to do something live and interactive for the announcement. It is a way for us to support them, to connect with our customers, and gives people an additional reason (among many!) to come into their store. We like win-wins. Social distancing norms will be respected. We are eager to make this announcement. My best, Blaine Hadfield Arrowhead Models

Well I watched the announcement of the announcement. Didn’t enjoy seeing the glass in hand and being teased about today. Good luck to Blaine and at least Lombard is a great place for an announcement. 80’s to now, hopefully something I want and if it is I will buy.

Whatever it is, please consider adopting Tangent's quantity discount model. I have quite a few of your Pennsy hoppers and they are exquisite. Adding a little incentive to buy 6, or 12 or even 24 models really can make a difference. I love your wheelsets, and would be interested in quantity orders for some of the other standard axle lengths. Understood you cannot offer the breadth of the old Reboxx line, but a couple of other popular axle lengths would really help out. One of the few things I would preorder, if you need a certain number to run. As with the cars, quantity price breaks make it a lot easier to order more Eagerly awaiting the new car! PS: should you ever make a 199 piece ore car, please consider price breaks at 48 cars I have quite a few photos of this one at Greenville, PA. I'd be happy to take measurements, if so desired: c1.staticflickr.com/1/318/18582537533_cc49772bc0_b.jpgThis one would also be nice: live.staticflickr.com/427/32522663262_4bcd0b21dc_b.jpg

Ohhhh! Those are nice RI blue hoppers and sitting next to Utah RSD's to boot! I just bought from Lombard Hobbies (speaking of Lombard) a copy of Jewel of the Wasatch by Chuck Conway, which covers the Rio Grande west of Grande Junction. Very nice book!

With all box jokes aside, any release 80's and up I'm out and with no continued speculation for the next nine days, that includes an 86' Box to.

Good lord! Can us more modern guys get a car every once in a while? As soon as you guys find out it doesn't fit 60's or 70's, you throw a fit and declare you're going to sniff glue?
Give me a break.

Nine more days gives them more time to upgrade the box. Best marketing keeps people talking about the company and its product. Kudos to the box marketing strategy because this guy can’t stop talking about it. I can think of a better marketing strategy: a company announces beautiful models and they are ready to buy right then. I've picked up a few of those beautiful models as soon as I saw the announcement. This countdown to the teaser bait-and-switch business is silly. Just get on with it.

As I'm nearing 75 years of age, I certainly remember the glue-sniffing craze, and it was no joke. Not as bad as the drinking of the poisonous form of alcohol from "canned heat" by some of the guys in various skid row areas at roughly the same time, which was sometimes fatal. But for a while some very young people were doing really foolish and potentially very harmful things. And that made it was hard for us really young model railroaders with no interest in abusing adhesives to buy almost any kind of plastic cement. I think the harmful fad ended when someone figured out how to add some really obnoxious odor to cement meant for use on polystyrene, or something along that line. But when in junior high or high school I tried to follow Alan Armitage's advice in his pioneering Model Railroader articles on using styrene in modeling, I was unable to find a place in Philadelphia that would sell me straight MEK (methyethylketone).
The only cement or paint I've encountered with an appealing scent had banana oil in it, I think. But I certainly didn't think it was for human consumption!
I also agree with Ryan in preferring the way Tangent handles their announcements, though I've certainly missed out on a few models I'd have liked to get and might have managed to if there'd be more prior notice of their release.

This countdown to the teaser bait-and-switch business is silly. Just get on with it. Couldn't agree more. Honestly I'm getting a bit tired of the antics already. They talk an awfully big game for a company that has made a grand total of ONE model, which while nice, had some fairly high-profile mistakes as well. As someone who models 2010+, odds are I'm probably not going to 'need' whatever it is. Even if it turns out to be something I could justify one or two of if I really wanted to, I most likely won't bother. I'd much rather spend my limited hobby dollars on a company that is going to be up front about what they are trying to sell me.

As a kid, I used to build military models... Once, when I needed a new tube of glue I tried a new kind they had at the hobby shop, which was supposed to be non-toxic. It also smelled like oranges! Unfortunately, it was some pretty poor glue... I would have had better success gluing the parts together with Mrs. Butterworth's syrup.
