Hello Group, I just received two Athearn fuel tank sets and they didn’t come with a parts diagram to help identify all the various details. Below is the stock photo from the Athearn website, but what I got was a bunch of parts in two very small bags (not parts still attached to a sprue as show in the photo). Some of the items I can figure out, but what all the piping is and where it goes on the tank is a mystery. Obviously not all the supplied parts are meant to be used on one tank, but does anyone have a diagram or break down of the various part names and where they are typically located? Any idea what these four large brackets are and where they are used? The rectangle with the drain is a water rendition tank I think. Thanks, Mark

If you happen to have a recent Athearn RTR engine, most of those include on the parts diagram a small section that shows the various piping. You have to do some trial/error of the parts depending on the size of the fuel tank and location of the fuel filler.

Thanks for the tip Bob! I went to my Genesis GP38-2 manual and found most of the parts identified. Here is a scan of the page with the part numbers descriptions listed below. 85 – Fuel Tank Front plate 58 – Breather Downpipe – Left #2 60 – Breather Up-pipe 61 – Breather Up-pipe - base 59 – Fuel Fill 62 – Fuel Tank Vertical Sight Glass Gauge - Standard 128 – 3600 Gal Fuel Tank 86 – Fuel Tank Filler Plate – Top, .156” 90 – Fuel Tank Filler Plate – Top, .114” 131 – Fuel Tank Drain Bar 91 – Fuel Tank End Plate 326 – Waste Tank Angled - Fuel Tank End Mount Those four brackets are filler plates that must go inside the tank to ensure a good fit against the chassis. Different widths for the different sized tanks. I hope this helps others who get these kits. You’ll probably still need good reference photos to determine what parts are applicable to the locomotive you’re modeling. Thanks, Mark
