It's finished. Here's the final beauty shot of this car. Cannon & Co kit bundle and decals with Moloco National C1 trucks and lots of other bits and dribs. Most paint and finish is AK Interactive and Vallejo.

The Decals must have been real fun ?

Some of the new Tangent PS4750 hoppers decorated for Santa Fe arrived at my house this week. I put them next to my Accurail 4750s and noticed quite a difference in the color: I found that Model Master British Crimson with a couple drops of Burnt Umber is a dead ringer for the color Tangent used. My plan is to replace the running boards on my Accurail cars and repaint them to match the Tangent cars, assuming I can find some suitable decals. Maybe I'll just go with the stealth paint job that doesn't have the large lettering. I have the same problem with my Accurail ACF4650s compared to the Genesis ACF4650s: Upgrading those Accurail cars isn't too bad, but by the time it's all said and done I could have used the same money to buy a Genesis car instead. However, they're not easy to find in this scheme so I'm weighing my options. At least decals specific to this car exist! Fortunately I only need a few of these cars.

Good day everyone. I bought this kit a few years ago for one of my children in the hopes that the train bug would bite...and it didn't. So, I ended up with a car I have no use for. The car is a Walthers single bay airslide hopper, decorated for Southern. The paint isn't bad...but the lettering doesn't match any photos I've seen. The shape of the letter O is way off. Add to it that it's a car that probably has been scrapped and wouldn't be allowed to run anywhere. So, what to do with it? Rather than sell it off, I'm using it as a test bed for upgrading older models I own. I figure that when I'm done with it, I can paint it or patch it and use it as a buffer car or scale test car for a steelmill. It won't be allowed on the mainline and can simply be used to put some distance between the locomotive and ingot cars. Above is the car with the 2x6 platforms that are supposed to represent grab irons. Those have to go. Here it is with wire grabs replacing the platforms. These I made using a jig and Tichy .008" phosphor bronze wire. I was going to use some cheap jewelry wire I had around, but it just wouldn't form correctly, so out came the good stuff. I will be lowering the brake wheel, replacing the stirrup steps and roofwalk, and putting a decent set of trucks and couplers on it. Not a bad future for a car that could have just been thrown on eBay. Have an awesome weekend everyone! Timothy Dineen

No modeling this week, but we had to update the decoder in one of our MP15's at work. It now has a Losound V5 file, and drive hold!

Those full size MP15's have about as much room to move around in the cab as an HO one with weights, decoder and speaker.
