I will show you three 50-ft cars that have been assembled. The body shell was lifted 0.140" (3.5 mm) above the floor, and extended draft gear was adopted. These are not detailed, but I think the proportions are good. 2880UP seems to dislike Hydra-Cushion, so I cut it out.

One thing I noticed on the 85' versions is the side sill is thinner than the AHM car. So I cut away some height in line with the stirrup steps. I also made up some roof vents out of .020 styrene. Need to add some end vents still.

If you are a member of Trainorders there is a post with 85' stockcars. The post is under Nostalgia & History & named "The last true Fall stock extra on the Rio Grande - 1979" The pictures are small unless you are a member. Tim Hanesworth

Thank you for the wonderful information. The picture of the dedicated train rushing into the Moffat tunnel is amazing. GASX 100035 is stenciled "EXCEEED PLATE C", isn't it? The stock cars have ventilators on the roof and at the car ends, and 10 panels between the doors with Howe truss. Is the train consist next?

The following photos are from keystonefarm, who has been bitten by the AHM livestock bug. Please give us some more info about these recent projects. And to bring us full circle back to the point of the thread are two Cross Bros. cars in process.

Before you guys attack I know PC did not have these cars. After building the four Cross Brothers cars which I just finished decaling I ended up with a few more AHM cars. Hmm what to do. I do have one customer on my Buffalo line in Williamsport that did receive stock by rail until early PC. So I figured I would have some fun and came up with these. Originally the silver but then I thought Hmm do two in green and put a Red P on two of the silver cars. Only changes to the AHM cars is to cut away some of the side sill as it looked too low for me. I added the plates for the PC herald. new wheel sets added some weight and KD's . I've got a 3120 sq ft Buffalo line upstairs. It's my world and with the events of the last year I needed a break from reality . I figured it would raise some eyebrows and if so I have succeeded in my mission !

What? US attack?
Nahhhh......
Well, now that you mention it, it's ALL wrong and you'll go to the bad place for producing these.
Which is where I'll likely be (with my friends). Along with the guys who created Penn Central.
I like 'em. Thanks for sharing.

Ken, thanks very much for your posts, which, like some others, are a very welcome breath of fresh air. I still think that "Model Railroading Is Fun!" is the best slogan -- in the modern sense of that word -- ever used by the oldest surviving model railroad periodical. We share a hobby and shouldn't be at war with each other.
A jingle that people who have visited any of the Disney amusement parks -- I haven't -- may have heard more than they like also is worth remembering: "It's a small world". I would encourage any readers who might not be familiar with Jonathan Swift's contributions to humanity -- in several senses of that word -- to look up the origin of the word Lilliput. The late John M. Bullitt's course on "The Augustan Age" was a wonderful course. I took it at Harvard's Extension School many years ago; it was the first time he had taught it there.

My only recommendation is to paint the trucks and weather the wheels and couplers. Done.

Just mix in a couple round roof stock cars and you're good.
