I like YELLOW and BLACK on railroad equipment (but not the Pittsburgh Steelers!). Think Erie Lackawanna and Virginian Train Masters, Clinchfield U36Cs, NYSW C430s and Tunnel motors, and just about all of Norfolk & Western in the Fifties. I also like SCL’s black freight cars with the billboard-style heralds.
I started work on a couple of Blue Box/MDC offset panel hoppers many, many years ago. I finally dug them out last summer; they were black shells that had been sprayed with Glosscote. I finally finished them with decals (Herald King), Tamiya clear flat, and Kadee trucks, couplers, and air-lines.
My caboose project stalled when a package of additional parts got lost in USPS limbo, so I grabbed an Athearn Genesis boxcar from the pile to keep busy. Most of the photos I found of this series cars was from the early 2000s and they were already covered in graffiti, so I took a little modelers license and kept it clean for my 1998 era, although I'm sure it would have had some.
Well went looking thru my photos of models and this is on the only yellow I have at the moment. I am sure I have posted this before. Kato SD90 MAC patched to photos of the prototype I photographed in Rural Hall shortly after NS acquired it. Weathering was done with a Paasche air eraser and Tamiya panel line accent colors.
