A yellow project, TTBX 941840, if any of our collective here has a copy of the TTX book I'd enjoy any additional info - i.e. builder and class. Thanks! The best shade of yellow is Rio Grande's Aspen Gold ( I'll admit a huge bias here) Have a great Sunday, Mark Hills On the bench is # 1231, I've just scuffed it with some 2000 grit wet/dry before it gets it's final clear coat later this week. Part of a Pearlman Mallet, SD-7 5303's yellow is intentionally a mismatch to the surrounding F's. A rebuilt Atlas ACF A TTX F60CH repaint....

I like YELLOW and BLACK on railroad equipment (but not the Pittsburgh Steelers!). Think Erie Lackawanna and Virginian Train Masters, Clinchfield U36Cs, NYSW C430s and Tunnel motors, and just about all of Norfolk & Western in the Fifties. I also like SCL’s black freight cars with the billboard-style heralds. I started work on a couple of Blue Box/MDC offset panel hoppers many, many years ago. I finally dug them out last summer; they were black shells that had been sprayed with Glosscote. I finally finished them with decals (Herald King), Tamiya clear flat, and Kadee trucks, couplers, and air-lines.

Matt, the bi-level rack is an old Overland models piece, their number 1354, maybe a bit clunky by today's standards and a challenging model to mask and paint, mine has quite a ways to go!

It's got yellow on it, does that count?? My caboose project stalled when a package of additional parts got lost in USPS limbo, so I grabbed an Athearn Genesis boxcar from the pile to keep busy. Most of the photos I found of this series cars was from the early 2000s and they were already covered in graffiti, so I took a little modelers license and kept it clean for my 1998 era, although I'm sure it would have had some. Well went looking thru my photos of models and this is on the only yellow I have at the moment. I am sure I have posted this before. Kato SD90 MAC patched to photos of the prototype I photographed in Rural Hall shortly after NS acquired it. Weathering was done with a Paasche air eraser and Tamiya panel line accent colors.

Rick, what model did you use for the DT&I car? Looks like a Evans car that was common before they built the "blue island reefers".

Rick, what model did you use for the DT&I car? Looks like a Evans car that was common before they built the "blue island reefers". Mask Island Decals came out with the decals for this car, and I bemoaned the fact that this car was not available anywhere to use the decals. Somebody pointed out to me that Front Range/McKeen made this combo door car with the one plug a 6' version molded into the car body but that the underframe and roof were POS. I ended up cutting out the bottom of the car body with my Dremel Tool and installed a Details West Hydra-Cushion Underframe as that is what these cars were manufactured with, but I got rid of the coupler pockets on the underframe and installed Moloco ones instead as they are easier to deal with and maintain. The prototype cars were acquired from Evans, but they were built by ACF. Built the rest of the car with the parts in the kit or others from my scrap box including the 8' Plug Doors and ladders left over from IMRC PS1's that looked better on the model, also used Evergreen Rod to make the 4 rods per door rather than the two that came with the molded doors. Also used a spare Branchline diagonal panel roof in place the the kit supplied roof. Cars were painted with Scalecoat II Armour Yellow, Boxcar Red and Silver Paints and then decaled with Mask Island Decals. Cars were assigned to the Campbell's Soup Plant in Napoleon, OH and could found everywhere due to the volume of traffic that plant created. Thanks for Looking! Rick Jesionowski

Rick Jesionowski Thanks for the detailed description. I hadn't noticed the ACF builders logo on some of these cars before, part of the Evans United States Leasing pool. Here are some examples; PS; linking directly to the photos didn't work, go to this link and look at USLX 121 ~ 398
