Here's how it's done when you don't have a whole ocean to play with: That's Naval Weapons Station Concord, in the San Francisco Bay. In the distance, you can see the Mothball Fleet. There used to be LOTS of ships; I think the last one "left" in 2017. Ed

A couple of years ago I took an interest in the Port Chicago operation as I live nearby in Contra Costa County. I rebuilt an HO Accurail 36 foot boxcar into one of the two cars that still exist at the Western Railway Museum. These were purchased by the Navy to replace the cars destroyed in the July 1944 catastrophic explosion that leveled Port Chicago. The Navy preferred wooden boxcars for local bunker to ship transportation as you had less chance of accidental sparks. I have some custom made decals from a friend to replace the Clover house transfers that didn't quite work. Just went on to other projects. I keep getting an error message that this forum has exceeded it's space when I try to attach a photo so here is a link to my blogspot on this car: srandsp.blogspot.com/2018/12/us-navy-box-car-from-port-chicago.html
