Somewhere along the way my foam cradle disappeared.
For today's more highly detailed models, where I do not want to bend metal sunshades because they like to break off if bent too much or too many times, I have found that it is sometimes better to place the model upside down on bubble wrap, perhaps using a paint or thinner bottle against one side to keep it in a vertical position. That way both my hands are free to do the work at hand.
Just a suggestion...

When I want to turn a locomotive over and work on the bottom, I make a spine out of the big sizes of Evergreen (1/4 x 3/4 and the like) and then glue four vertical uprights on the sides. I space them to land on the walkways. Nothing ever touches the roof. I also usually add outriggers to lessen "tipping ooops's".
I've got a big box of these now. They're reusable, you know.
I've also got variants for E's and F's, with carefully spaced support tabs that land on the roof but that the roof details. Got one for my F40PH, to.

So, has Athearn posted anywhere how to get the repair kit? Thought that was to be provided when they released the video.

Note that I have found, though with the video out today I expect the link to be in the next couple of days at a guess - perhaps announced during tomorrows Train Tuesday?

Doesn’t look too bad. Still, this better be a one time only occurrence.

So, is that one shim per sideframe, or one per truck?
Looks like the shim is just a short length of Evergreen strip from where I’m sitting.

The PDF instructions (posted by Jon from Athearn earlier in this thread) show one per truck, and are clear that it is a specific sideframe on each truck that this needs to be done to.

Asked about today on Train Tuesday, they are waiting for some work to be done on the website and then it will be available for requesting.

Before people get upset - read the instructions on the product page, they have a coupon code to be used to cancel out the $5.99 price.
There are also instructions on the product page for returning your SD60M to Athearn for them to do the repair.

I need eight repair kits. I can tell you that Athearn built a maximum number of kits that someone can request and 8 is more than that number. It's to prevent someone from hoarding the kits. You might be able to place two orders and if that doesn't work, contact Athearnhelp@horizonhobby.com for the total number you want.

OK, so I just tried to order and do not get the "Buy It Now" option. Am I missing something? Thanks. Bob EDIT: OK, if you click the second "Pre Order" button it takes you to the order page. EDIT#2: It requires CC info, but you can dummy that up as it doesn't do any kind of CC verification. Bob

Have folks been receiving the kits? Has it been going well? I'm the guy that diagnosed the problem, engineered the solution, and put together the instructions so constructive criticism is welcome. We're not hearing much back at Athearn HQ which I take as a good thing, but if there's anything that needs to be addressed I'd like to know about it.

I can report the kits work! A guy at my club did the work on my CP unit and it took about ten minutes, most of which was allowing time for the glue to dry. The engine now runs fine with no issues.

Spring Creek Model Trains has shipped the repair kits, unsolicited by the customer, to anyone who purchased a SD60M Tri-Clops. The Zuckers are great folks and really now how to provide great customer service. Not affiliated with SCMT, just a happy customer. Bob

Bob I got shipping notice from Spring Creek, emailed to find out what had been shipped, and it was the repair kit, got it yesterday. As Bob said, unsolicited. Great people to work with.
