I think I might have mentioned that I was working on a Summit Customcuts model of a Taco Bell circa 1985. Here it is.

The majority of them are original to the Tichy tank I used, but I added the four rings for the original internal tank heads and the ones around the patches on each end using Micromark decals. It was quite an interesting car at one time, starting out as a 3 dome car with a larger center compartment than the outer ones. It was converted to a single compartment car while still on the rails and not after, as the lettering on the car ends says 10000 gallons.

Mundane stuff on the bench this week, I rebuilt a Genesis GP40-2, after tearing apart the chassis, new wiring and heat shrink from the trucks to the board. Cleaned a lot of excess grease out of the gearboxes and re assembled it, big improvement in performance. Here's some oldies, happy Sunday!

I brought a couple models on the road with me to see if I could successfully transport them, work on them and bring them home without destroying them. We're through step two of that process now, so we'll just have to see about getting them home. So this is why I wanted to get some gravity outlet gates from the Atlas ACF 4650. I've asked Accurail if their parts are available separately and it sounds like the answer is going to be yes once they get caught up on production of their new ACF 2970. But for now the Atlas parts will do. Here are a couple Intermountain kits I've built, painted and now here in the hotel I have applied the decals (to one side anyway, another set is enroute). Yes, the lettering and logo is shifted on some prototypes. I don't know why or what the affected numbers are though.

How difficult was the gate swap?

Well looks like I need to do some work to my MP one. How difficult was the gate swap? It couldn't be easier. I assembled the two parts of the gate, trimmed off the mounting pin and used some Tamiya extra thin cement to attach the gate.

Looks like you had better luck with the Intermountain kit then I did. I started an undecorated ACF 2980, but there is so much flash it’s like carving a statue out of granite. Looks good. Do you like the gray color? I brought a couple models on the road with me to see if I could successfully transport them, work on them and bring them home without destroying them. Do you like the gray color? One of the kits was undecorated and one was painted in Rock Island blue (wrong prototype). The painted car had much less flash than the undecorated kit, so it wasn't too bad, but your description is right on the mark for the other kit! I considered buying a few more of these kits but I'll probably steer clear of them unless I get them for a song. At least building them as kits allows the opportunity to correct the running board issues. I have not had the best experience with Tru-Color, so rather than go that route I just mixed up some MM Flat White and Neutral Gray until it was close to the paint on a Tangent hopper. The paint will be about 10 years old by the time I'm done with them so fading is a must.
