Did the Southern have a specific model of generator on the trucks? I've seen generators on plenty of cabooses.

Darn No Southern Bay Windows again this month. Great release though! My SWAG on the timeline for the eventual release of Tangent Bay Window cabeese in SOU livery would be some time in 2023 (i.e. "Tangent's No. 4 Caboose" or some such). The rear trucks (engineer's side) for those SOU Bay Window cabeese had generators. Tangent would never release that caboose with the incorrect trucks...which, by the way, can only be used on that model. Hopefully not that far away !

Tangent once again has raised the bar! Brings new meaning to "Museum Quality". NYC_caboose-end by Edmund, on Flickr Ed Ed, the super elevation on those curves looks great. What is the thickness used to raise up the outside of the ties. Those Cabooses look excellent.

is there really that much of a demand for EL cabooses, or is it just three overly vocal accounts on this forum? Seems to rarely (if ever) come up on other message boards.

I wouldn't know, but if Dave actually produces one, I expect his research indicates a real demand. EL has fans, but how many is hard to say. My fav RR is D&RGW and watching sales of D&RGW models gives me the impression it sells and is popular but I don't know the real world demand.

I’d say there is a legit demand. Besides EL, depending on the model you also get Conrail, Erie and/or Lackawanna plus castoffs like the D&H. My problem is, the vocal parties are lobbying for bay windows and I’d prefer older cupola models like the Keyser Valley (DLW/EL/CR/D-L) or the Dunmore (ERIE/EL/CR/WAG). I model branchlines and the bay window jobbers seemed to stay on the mainline.
Just my opinion. If Tangent DOES do an EL bay window I’ll be glad for the folks who want it.

Obviously, Tangent needs to make both kinds, cupola and bay window. Maybe even an older wood type too. How did a NYC caboose sneak ahead in the queue?

I'd gladly be in for a couple of EL cabooses myself. I'm just pretty patient about it. I don't think my finances could handle more than a couple high end caboose releases a year. And I'm not about to sell a kidney to support my modeling habits.

Yeah, I noticed the price went from ~$90 for the B&O ICC cabooses to ~$115. Worth it probably but at that rate if/when EL cabooses come out could be approaching $140

If Tangent does EL cabooses, I would be in for about 10 if that many numbers are produced. I am glad to see quality cabooses finally being made, it is something that has been missing from the hobby for a long time! Come on Dave, lets get these EL's done!

Frankly I wish they'd do an economy version that leaves out the electronics in the $80 range. I could live without the interior superdetail too. But I'm cheap.

I'm envious of you eastern guys! I want some Tangent caboose goodness too! Thing is, Tangent only does bay window cabooses. So he's got to first wade through the UP CA-11 and the RI/UP CA-13, the WP "outside braced" bay window, the NP/SP&S/BN bay windows, probably some SP ones (might have to fight it out with Athearn on that one) and a couple of GN. Oh, yeah. There's also those tres cute MILW cars! Would maybe go well with an SDL39, I think. S'pose it might be OK to start doing cupola cabooses after that. Ed

I think C&NW bay windows need to be next. They'd be a huge seller! Lots of paint schemes.... Original red, red with logos only, yellow with stencil logos, yellow with two-color logos, yellow with "employee owned" logo and slogan, Zito yellow with all four or five different slogans, etc, even gray or green for work train service... AND they ran through on UP, PC/CR, Milwaukee, GTW and probably others. Maybe even EL!

Something to check when you get your caboose is the folded order form in the box. I opened mine and found a nice sticker inside of the PC N7.

Well, I already got a bunch of Genesis SP bay windows. I wonder how they would have turned out if Tangent did them? Ya know, I did order one of the Museum ST MILW SDL39's just cause they are so cool. A Tangent MILW caboose would go nicely with it. A WP bay window would be nice too. I might even go for a UP bay window - UP cabooses crossed D&RGW system now and then, but mostly the cupola type. (I'm waiting for Athearn to do the "K" Kaiser UP caboose.)

Pretty sure they can do at least 3 roadnames for the CA-13, UP,RI,and CNW.
Plus the different paint schemes for RI!

Sure is lots of discussion and buying in this RTR plastic caboose thread. Didn't someone elsewhere in this forum say that these projects were not viable because there are no stand-in road names here? Apparently we cannot have RTR plastic vans since those who care have already bought brass or will only buy ONE nice plastic caboose for their layout. Foobies or re-runs of 30 year old models will do in all other cases, right?

I think manufacturers realized, probably through conversations or emails with customers and hobby shops that quality locomotives in plastic are great, but many of these would have a caboose on the end of the train.
I can't use many of these, but I'm happy they're finally making them, hopefully leading to more designs people want.

“Tangent only does Bay Window cabooses”
Wrong. They have only done Bay Window cabooses *so far*.

Frankly I wish they'd do an economy version that leaves out the electronics in the $80 range. I could live without the interior superdetail too. But I'm cheap. I suspect that adding the electronics and interior detail adds very little to the manufacturing cost, but it allows for a higher sticker price, possibly making the difference between a no-go and a profitable product.

I sure hope they plan on doing the CA-11 caboose...that would be a stunning car. I know he was over at the NMOT a few years back measuring a BN caboose...and the MoPac caboose...but I don't know if it was the archives (EV) or the Short Bay window car. Bluford Shops has already released a very nice version of that caboose...but Tangent would obviously take that car to the next level...with the lighting, draft gear, step wells, etc.,
For years I would go to the shows *and I know that I am NOT the only one requesting them* asking for road specific cabooses. Especially with all the road-specific diesels from the 1960s and 1970s out there...a good looking caboose on the end of the train was a natural choice.
I briefly toyed with the idea of going into the manufacturer side of things...focusing only on cabooses. However, the ever-changing issues with foreign labor sourcing and the mass consolidation of the factories ( the first time ) caused me to put the brakes on that venture.
I am glad that I did at this point. There is no way that I could compete with a Tangent or Athearn Genesis level caboose. So, I am happy to see these coming to fruition. All I have to do is click, pay, and wait for them to arrive.
Plus, Tangent and Athearn Genesis cars are also available at local hobby shops in my area.

I think there is a market for road specific plastic cabooses, now that they don’t have to be brass don’t have to cost $300 plus. $115 a pop might seem expensive, but really for what you’re getting and what the comparable brass cost would be it really is a good deal.

These cars are absolutely superb replicas…Athearn Genesis cabooses are very nice. However, Tangent cabooses are superior...and I love the new packaging...they are packaged in a box that is similar to the old "green boxes" we used to get brass cars in.
Karnak IL will never look better...I am going to have to ensure that a do a full detail job on the three Atlas GP38's now with good fuel tanks and air tanks under them...because they will be lacking coupled to these cabooses for sure if I don't.
Very nice, indeed.
I also hope Tangent does the MP Extended Vision car...because I'll be in for all road numbers and schemes offered...except the one UP yellow car after the merger.
