I'll start off with this Walthers co-op shed. Originally built by a late friend and modeling mentor, I repainted it and have been modifying it to more closely resemble one in Charlton, MD. Hoping to get the doors on later today.

I have completed the third ACF 50' RBL that the DT&I leased from Evans Products. This is the McKean ACF Boxcar kit where I cut out the poorly done underframe of the original kit, with the replacement Details West Hydrocushion Underframe replacement below. Here is the installed underframe along with the proper Moloco Extended Coupler pockets. I also used A-Line Sill Steps and a Plano Crossover Platform on each end of the car. Here is the completed car, painted with Scalecoat II Armour Yellow, Silver and Boxcar Red Paints and lettered with Mask Island Decals. The DT&I had 20 of these cars in service for the Campbell's Soup Plant in Napoleon, Ohio along with myriad other 40' XLI Boxcars, 50' GATC RBL's and 50' FGE RBL's (of which we need a model made). Rick, is the starting point McKean kit an Ex Front Range car? I really like the finished model, may have to try this myself!

Yes they are ex-Front Range kits but these came with a cast in 6’ auxiliary door versus whatever Front Range had, also the under frame was much different than a Front Range. The prototype had 6’ and 8’ plug doors. I also substituted a Branchline DP roof for the kit roof. Rick Jesionowski

This weekend completed some upgrades on a Walthers Mainline NSC 60ft 5150 hopper. Gino Great job on that 5150! Those Walthers hoppers are underrated, IMO, and that shows what you can do to one with just a bit of work!

"Which tool(s) do you use to cut those Plano parts lose?" (loose)
I recently had some trouble getting an etched running board (not plano) and other parts separated from the frets using my usual small nail scissors. After a few choice words and bent parts, I discovered that regular scissors worked much better. Their length provided extra leverage and didn't crush the desired parts. Try that.

I also have a question. Which tool(s) do you use to cut those Plano parts lose? I use Xuron® High Precision Scissor 440 which is a short shear. They now make Xuron® Professional Photo Etch Scissor 9180ET which might be better. They also make TK 3600-Photo-Etch Tool Kit. Xuron tools can be pricy and there are knock-offs floating around. Amazon can be your friend.

Nice stuff gentlemen. I am a day late and a few dollars short, but I have been productive. Took this out of the box today and have it roughly 70% finished.

I keep them lightly oiled between uses and keep the protective tube over the business end. They are kinda pricey up front but you should never need another pair.

Thanks, now finding a resonable priced one.
best regards,

Well, it's my Sunday so why not.. Have this side pretty much finished, still needs under frame and interior done. I don't normally try to match a car this closely especially a cheap foobie, but I get goofy sometimes. The fade was too subtle, and then matte spray rejuvenated the bankruptcy blue, but I think it will look cool in-train.

Very nicely done. I like the "hé, I'm working hard to earn my keep"-look without being a rust queen. :-)
